Shelter Event

Pets

January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.

I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.

If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.

Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

Thanks.

Sigh. I really wish I could help you. I love animals more than life itself and its times like this that I'd love to be able to use my money on the Internet. I volunteer at a shelter, and I wouldn't even care for the custom. Just the animals. All my pets were rescues aside from my fishes and one dog, who was my mother's anniversary gift. Good luck with donations, and I pray for your kitty and all shelter pets.

I work very closely with a local shelter, New Hope Dog Rescue. I foster dogs and run volunteer events and charity fundraisers. So to see this running on Aywas really touches my heart. I'm so glad we're doing something to give back to the animals that make our lives so wonderful.
If I can figure out how to set up a Paypal account, count me in.

I think I'll leave this up for two weeks. That sounds like a reasonable amount of time.

We've always adopted animals that either found us, or in the case of one of my sugar gliders, was about to be put into an animal shelter. Xeeva has been living happy with her cage buddy Thony and her 'tree mamma' over the last year I've had her. We've donated foods our picky rescued cats don't eat to the local shelter back up in Maine, but being down in Georgia now I can't do that so readily, so I'm making a donation now to at least help a little more.

All of the animals in my house were rescued. ;~; The only ones bought would be the horses, of which three really were rescued from going into bad places.

we got all our pets from shelter (1 dog, 2 cat, 2 bunnies, 2 bearded dragons, 2 mice) and it's the best we could do...

I help this shelter as best as i can.. food, going out with dogs, clean cat toilets, etc.

I absolutely would send money, but i can't... i have to feed my animals, too.. and i prefer to give the shelter the food and see their happy faces instead of donating money...

sorry.

All my pets but one came from the humane society. We donate to our shelter often and go visit the animals and take treats and play with the animals.

We met a beautiful chocolate lab Jan 3rd 2012. Yup met him this year. We had 3 dogs the beginning of summer 2011 but we had to put two to sleep. It was a terrible ordeal for us. So we had our black lab left. Over the last two months she had become needy. So I told my husband I believe it is time to find a companion for her. We went there not expecting to find someone we wanted right away. And we found the lab. He had been in the pound since before Thanksgiving. The poor fella is very skinny. We wanted to take him home with us right away. We found out that he had kennel cough and was not neutered. So we could not take him home with us but we decided to adopt him over the course of the next week and a half we went and visited him daily. I'm proud to say that he came home to us Jan 14th. He has been given the name Chuck and is loving it here with us. I'm sure this is one of those happy stories that you would love to hear.

I'm soooo happy this image is going towards a good cause! :D My christmas wish was for Aywas to donate to an animal shelter, and this is even better. A cause for a cause!
Over the years my mom and I have adopted 5 cats from a shelter, and I found my current cat outside when he was 4 weeks.
