Pets
January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.
I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.
If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:
Shelter Hearts
If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.
Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.
Thanks.

A lovely cause. Most of my pets are blue-blooded pedigreed dogs, but I have always supported rescues and shelters with donations and volunteering, and worked at a greyhound rescue for about 2.5 years a while ago.
My two cats are both rescues, though... a Maine Coon mix who is nearly 17 years old, and a boneheaded but beautiful Ragdoll who is much younger. ;)

Shelter pets are really the way to go; I got both of my dogs from a shelter, and they've been wonderful. I prefer my mutts to the high bred dogs, to be honest.

You're more than welcome to donate your money elsewhere, but you shouldn't expect any product in exchange (from us). Most companies only donate 1 - 5% of their proceeds, so what we do is extremely generous.

It's understandable that the 50% that Aywas is donating is generous, but it still seems very steep compared to other past donating events. As I asked before, where is the other half of the money going?

She's soooo cute. I am afraid that I can't donate :( My kitty is not from shelter, though, I am planning to adopt another one from shelter.

1 to 5% is MUCH lower than 50%. :/

But still, this doesn't seem..... right in a way. While yes, you guys are doing something nice, you don't have to follow in the footsteps of other big coorperations. That's waht I always liked about aywas. You guys never took money destinated for charity before, and got people to donate who otherwise would have not done. Going from taking no proceeds to half of the pie just seems like an insanely steep jump.

I think it would be helpful if everyone knew where the other half was going.

I wish I could do this event... Oh wait $10.00 in my pocket.... takes out and puts in the other pocket! Yippers. Your donation has been accepted... I have a large Breed Dog Rescue that I run with my best friend. We get so many calls about animals during this time of year. All the shelters/rescues about this area get low on cash and can not help many. I am glad for this event. Last year I ended up with 15 Kittens and we still have 3 of them. We are a no-kill rescue so every animal that finds it way to us has a life long home ever if no one adopts them. Please adopt if you can!

Why is only half donated? I'd think that keeping 1/4 for Aywas would be nice... and would help a lot more animals.
