Shelter Event

Pets

January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.

I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.

If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.

Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

Thanks.

This is a very cool idea. It's so important to support local humane societies. I have automatic donations sent to 2 local groups. The local humane society where I've gotten all my dogs (2 current and 2 past) and 2 of my cats, and to a group called Friends of Felines. I can't donate much but by having it done automatically it does add up throughout the year and they get more than if I tried just donating once or twice a year.

My dog was a pound dog :( I'll buy a Hearts, but I think I'll be donating more money to my local shelters. Thanks for doing this! --Phee

I wish I could donate :( I'm broke now, though... We had to give away the litter of kittens my grandma's cat had... She was a stray, and she was pregnant while she was outside, but luckily we found her and took her in, not knowing about her kittens till she delivered, but I have a special place in my heart for shelters and strays... :(

Why did i spend my money on GP the other day, if i weren't absolutely skint or hadn't bought too much yesterday, i would be all over it. :(
Still i think i may go adopt a pet instead!

Got our kitty from a vet; her sisters were all ill and ended up dying. :c And got her adoptive sister from someone who needed to get rid of her. :P We have some extra dog food my grandmother gave us thinking they could eat it. hehe... I'll see if they'll take it. ^^ I only wish we had one that wasn't the "humane" society. :< If anyone knows a good one in west-Columbus, OH, please PM me! ~Yvne

My gal, Annie, is a shelter rescue. She was on the list to be euthanized when I got her and now she has a home where we all love her, a playmate, and all the tablescraps I say she can't have. X3 I've been wanting to go back out there and volunteer, I just haven't had a chance to. The pets there are wonderful and definitely need good homes. I hope they all find the loving families they deserve.

You mean Humane Society of the United States, right? They (as well as the ASPCA) capitalize on the fact that so many assume they're parent organizations. I work at an SPCA in California, and it's surprising how many people in our community think they're helping local animals when they donate to one of those two.
