January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.
I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.
If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.
Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

I've never adopted from a shelter, but all 5 of my cats were either strays I took in or unwanted pets people simply gave to me. I'm a big supporter of the SPCA here and donate weekly. Seeing something like this on Aywas makes me glad to be part of such a caring and thoughtful site. Definitely will help out with this (yay for today being pay day!) <3

wish i had the money to donate...I've always taken in stray animals(I was the bane of my mothers life up until i moved out)
Not all of my pets have come from shelters but it's the little charities that do the greatest work.

I always tack on an extra 5 or 10 when I'm at Petco to help local shelters, but I'll donate to this cause as well. And I shall do it gladly.

Awe! What an adorable kitten! honestly, I've never gotten any pets from a shelter... All my cats were wild kitties that either followed us home or thought our porch was a nice place to beg. So.. Similar? I managed to snag them before they ever went to the shelter ;p Gotta say, its tricky to deal with entirely wild cats though... I have been fairly successful with it though.

I wish that people understood pets should really never be given as presents, unless discussed previously with the recipient. Wonderful event, Slash. Despite being recently laid off, I think I will manage to scrounge a few dollars to donate to this cause <3
