Shelter Event

Pets

January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.

I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.

If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.

Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

Thanks.

I donate some money every month to a cat shelter for food or toys or whatever the cats need and every year I buy the calender the shelter sells. That is all I can afford so Im sorry but I cant help you with this. I really love what you are doing though. Animal shelters need all the help they can get.
One of my cats is from a shelter. She was over a year old when I got her. They had kittens too but kittens gets adopted easier. She needed me more.
Thank you for helping shelters. <3

Aw, this is an amazing thing to do. I'm so glad aywas does these sorts of things to support animals. Kudos. <3 And yes, it's totally sad how people think of animals as mere toys and gift them for Christmas without considering what they are doing. ;/ Wrong. Utterly wrong.

I'm a little wary about donating, as only half of the money is going to the shelter. I can see it costing money initially for the art but I don't see how it could continue to cost enough to warrant $5 x however many users wind up buying this item. I really would like to donate because I have 3 shelter cats of my own and I love them very dearly, I just can't get this shaky feeling out of my stomach that the money is not going to the right place.

I'm kinda with Shuufly on this one. o.o I can see the initial cost, but half of all the donations? I want to buy like 10 of these things, but then that means only $50 of my donation is actually going towards something, and surely this item didn't cost $50+ to make.....Care to elaborate on how that works further? I can't say I'll be donating as much as I'd like to with that low of an amount actually being used for the cause it's meant for...

I'm offering to take the value in site currency to purchase hearts for people who can't do it themselves. I think its a wonderful idea. I hope lots of people buy them :).

I imagine the rest of the money would be used to pay people who work on the site.
I think of it as helping pets and helping people in the struggling economy
If this is not the case....Then I'd really like all $10 to go to the shelter, god knows they need it more.

AW! I've never understood giving a pet for Christmas it's the worst time to do so.
And always turns out bad.

I'd donate to this, but I think taking half off the top is a bit excessive. -Do Seriously, all the other charities aywas ran didn't take any money from the causes they were donating to. This just seems a bit... shallow in comparison. I mean, I'd understand taking some of it to help pay for site things, but half? I think people'd be better off going to their local shelters and handing them the ten dollars instead of spending it here. While that wouldn't get you a cat in a box, it'd be far more helpful than giving them a fiver instead of a ten.

I've only gotten one cat as a Christmas present. And it worked out great. I was a dork one year and got the cat as a gift to my other cat. They are best friends now.

I mean, this makes no sense in comparison to the other charitys aywas ran. Every other time I remember, there was a donation link to give all proceeds to whatever charity, and we just had to show our reciept after making our donations.
