Shelter Event

Pets

January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.

I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.

If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

Shelter Hearts

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.

Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

Thanks.

lawl @ 50% to taxes. Why are shelter donations only tax-deductable if we as individuals make them, but not if Aywas as a site does so?

*for as a site, I don't mean individuals' taxes through indirect donation. I meant Aywas taxes, as it seems silly to need to pay taxes for the money you're just middle-manning to a charity.

we have 2 cats
Lucky the male cat, was tossed out a truck window near a farm. We got him while garage saling.
Lyka was born in a barn near some friends of the family. She is part bobcat and has a 1 inch tail =) her mother died crossing a road...(she was a stray) Sweetevee has PSDs of both and lucky she uses as her avatar.
Cheyenne Freespirit was my blonde Siberian Husky and was 6 years old. She was scheduled to be put down the next day because the shelter said that she was too old to get into a home. That was the smartest, most loving, protective dog I have had the pleasure to call my friend. I cannot tell you how happy we were with her in our lives and when she died so did a piece of each member of our family. she lived for another 6 years before she passed. a full life for a sweet animal

Shelters are a last resort but they can be worse for the animal in the wrong conditions. Have your pets fixed, go to a shelter for new pets and give what you can to help these animals.

Oh my God what is wrong with people? How could they just give away those poor pets to a shelter? I know some people can't afford pets, and that's understandable, or they have an allergy or something, but seriously, if you dont have those kinds of issues, why put the poor animals under that stress if you don't have too?

You are an awesome person!

I have 3 kitties that I adopted from a local shelter around where I live (1 lives with my mom who has adopted 4 cats and the other 2 live with me). I use to foster kittens when I lived in an apartment and I could afford it. It was too heartbreaking to have to give them to new families after being their mother so I finally adopted 2. They are the sweetest cats ever. They shake, roll over, sleep with my fiance and I when we sleep. One of them never leaves my lap. My fiance was never a cat guy but I converted him. These cats are my children. <3 Please donate if you can I donated 50 which isn't a lot but hopefully it helps.
