Shelter Event

Pets

January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.

I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.

If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.

Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for doing this. Being a volunteer for a 501(c) no-kill Rescue here where I live for almost 10 years now I know how deeply your donation will be appreciated. Things are pretty rough for the small places that get no funding or help. They run on donations and out of pocket and things are worse than they have ever been due to the economy. I'm sorry I can't donate to this as anything I can spare goes to the Rescue I'm with. You are doing a wonderful thing and it will indeed make a difference! :)

I adopted an adult cat which are harder to find homes for. He has ended up being one of the sweetest cats I have ever had.
Very sad to hear that people drop off their kittens.

I cannot afford to donate today, but I definitely agree, if you do not have alot of money to donate another option is donating blankets, beds, food. For christmas my work did a "money tree" where our customers and ourselves (any tips we got) we put on the try for the local animal shelter (I live and work in a very pet friendly town) and at the end we had around $137, instead of out right donating the money (we were concerned about how the money would'e been used) we went down to the local petco and bought dog and cat food and beds and litter and took it to the shelter. It was fun and made us all feel good.

Daww that's sweet. Our family and my mom's co-workers have actually been helping take care of 12+ kitties that live at her work. They're all strays/runaways and well, feeding them is a lot better than calling the pound and watching them all get destroyed.

I already paid mine just now :)!!

~ I got my cat from the SPCA in SC.. and he was all skin and bones, to point that the shelter said they'd give me another cat (for free) if he died, and i've had him for almost 8 years now, he's grown up with me, I got him when I was about 8, and i'm about 15 going on 16 in April, so it means a lot to me, so I plan on asking a friend of mine to make the custom to look like my cat xD. Its going to be my gift to him :).

I already have 4 cats, five at one point. D; I always go to my shelter and donate and buy them toys. It's sad how many cats and dogs stay there for a long time. Especially black cats and dogs. Dx I've had two black cats and both of them had health issues. My current one, Spaz is deaf. Go get black pets! They're euthanized the most.
