Just in time for the holidays~

collectable_candycane.pngcollectable_snowflake.png

I know that everyone is looking forward to the Holiday Lane opening, don't worry it hasn't been forgotten! We have been experiencing some shop glitches(all admin side) so we're behind on a few things. The pets are going to be stocked and it will be open shortly, however I do want to forwarn everyone that we will be having a new currency! One of the major points of feedback we have received is how older users get an advantage when it comes to events. So to help with this we are going to begin having the events with a non-item currency, so this currency will not be tradeable and everyone will start fresh every year.
We will be trying to think of a trade in for all your candy canes and snowflakes that you have been sitting on for the past few years, but they will not be the main currency this year.

collectable_angrypumpkin.png

Speaking of our feedback! We have finally finished compiling all of the comments we got and we are thrilled with the amount of feedback! There was several comments specifically stating that they loved the anonymous feedback, without worrying about what the other users will think of them or their opinions. Due to this we are intending on doing this more often, however it also brings us a great deal of sadness how many people stated that they were actually afraid to post their opinions where other users could see it.

That isn't right. I know that Aywas is going through quite a bit right now, but we are all a large family. Nobody should be afraid of any others, and Staff will not tolerate abuse. So I wish to remind everyone, if you are being harassed, if somebody is insulting you, or even just bothering you, whether it is on a thread, pet comments, news comments, PM's, anywhere, please contact one of our moderators. That is what they are here for. To help make you feel comfortable.

Now, I am going to go through and address several points that were brought up in the closed comments but to prevent cluttering up the news post further please come over to this thread if you are curious~

Making another post so that I don't have one giant comment filled with a bunch of stuff, please forgive me!

I also really agree with AremRae and other people who support the idea of a new currency for each event, but an interesting way to have it transferable might be to code it like BP, GP, and SP?

In other words, not an actual "item" per se, but transferable like BP and so forth. BP and the other currencies are listed on the side bar with just numbers and not actual items.

This could potentially have it be tradeable via the bank or another page, but not able to just be grabbed from user shops as people collect it and toss it up for sale. There's still flaws with this idea, yes, but I'm not really sure of any other way around it, really?

The ability to trade in past event currencies for the new event locked one would also be nice, by the way! I've no idea of what a good exchange rate would be, sadly. I suppose it all depends on how many current event currencies are laying around gathering dust, and how much event shop items will be.

I'd also like to note that my only annoyance with past user events regarding special currency, was that it couldn't be traded if it happened to be found the same way BP is in adventure, and was also account bound. I'm not a very social person at all, and I get intimidated by speaking to people I don't know, and due to that along with my friends not being able to really participate in some of the events [I can't recall which one specifically, I apologize, very tired at the moment] I missed out on some items and event pets that I really wanted, and I'm sure other people have been in the same spot previously.

I know I'm jumping around a bit, I apologize once more. The idea of being able to just make a trade post listing what you want in return or a 'tempt me' could make it easy for people who, like me, have problems conversing with other people, can just offer and never need to speak to the user in question. And, hopefully still have it semi-controlled so the currency doesn't get super inflated.

Wow, I'm really rambling tonight, oops. Okay, I think it's time I go lay down now. Thank you for reading this, and I hope it's at least able to be made sense of. XD

I'd be more for a new currency that is an item. Like a crystal snowflake or a snowman or something. Something that can still be traded for gp/bp/items. I'm not overly fond of account bound currency since I don't always have the time to adventure, but I like to get some shiny things from the event shop. I get that you are trying to make it fair, and I respect that. I'm just going to mention I'd still prefer the new currency to be a tradeable item.

The jeweled bases are cute, and I can't wait to use the premium item. <3 I actually like most the bp and gp shop pets, so good job artists!

πŸŽβ„Kaiyo❄⛄ (#489) Eh, minor typo - The Coal Black Potion should say that it's for the December pets instead of the November pets. :-)

I like that idea Ellory, a tradeable currency like the raffle ticket, that goes away after the event. that way people who can't adventure because of rl stuff won't be as far behind. Unlike a non-tradeable currency that people won't know until the end of the event and unless it's open for a while, there usually isn't a lot of time to buy and sell the non-tradeable things.

πŸŽβ„Kaiyo❄⛄ (#489) "this currency will not be tradeable and everyone will start fresh every year" I think in your efforts to not give some users an advantage, you're shutting out a certain demographic of your users. There are people who do not have the time to devote to fighting/adventuring/playing in seasonal events; by having tradable currency, you give those users absolutely zero chance of participating; and you give users who HAVE the time no incentive to do more than the minimum required for the items they wish for. Nor do you encourage users to spend on site if they're being shut out of events.

If you create a new currency type per event - heck just change the colors of the candycanes and snowflakes fer now - then users start on equal footing, and users who have funds but no time can still participate by encouraging others to farm/participate extra and sell off the excess. Isn't inclusion more important?

As for the other thing.... "Staff will not tolerate abuse" - but what about when it's the staff doing the abuse?? Or staff looking the other way?

DelennDax7 (#67503) - Nice catch, I've fixed that for her!

Calico β˜• (#25718) - If you have a complaint about a member of staff then take it to another member of staff. None of us are beyond reproach, and whoever you speak to will be able to determine who to forward it on to.

"Older users get an advantage" seems pretty immature considering we've been here for years. You'd think older users deserve to keep the currency they have because we're veteran users. The longer you stay around, the more you accumulate. I can understand pricing event items based on how much of the currency was found, but then perhaps either change how you price items or just allow us to keep our currency? I don't get why newer users find that unfair unless there is something wrong with how we get the currency.

I always appreciate all the thought put forward into new things and events and such. But I do have to admit, the no more regular currency thing is a bit of a bummer to me as well. But I cant knock it until I try it I guess.
