Just in time for the holidays~

collectable_candycane.pngcollectable_snowflake.png

I know that everyone is looking forward to the Holiday Lane opening, don't worry it hasn't been forgotten! We have been experiencing some shop glitches(all admin side) so we're behind on a few things. The pets are going to be stocked and it will be open shortly, however I do want to forwarn everyone that we will be having a new currency! One of the major points of feedback we have received is how older users get an advantage when it comes to events. So to help with this we are going to begin having the events with a non-item currency, so this currency will not be tradeable and everyone will start fresh every year.
We will be trying to think of a trade in for all your candy canes and snowflakes that you have been sitting on for the past few years, but they will not be the main currency this year.

collectable_angrypumpkin.png

Speaking of our feedback! We have finally finished compiling all of the comments we got and we are thrilled with the amount of feedback! There was several comments specifically stating that they loved the anonymous feedback, without worrying about what the other users will think of them or their opinions. Due to this we are intending on doing this more often, however it also brings us a great deal of sadness how many people stated that they were actually afraid to post their opinions where other users could see it.

That isn't right. I know that Aywas is going through quite a bit right now, but we are all a large family. Nobody should be afraid of any others, and Staff will not tolerate abuse. So I wish to remind everyone, if you are being harassed, if somebody is insulting you, or even just bothering you, whether it is on a thread, pet comments, news comments, PM's, anywhere, please contact one of our moderators. That is what they are here for. To help make you feel comfortable.

Now, I am going to go through and address several points that were brought up in the closed comments but to prevent cluttering up the news post further please come over to this thread if you are curious~

Eve (#2775) Thanks! And based off of your last post if a currency exchange item were implemented then having it expire and turn into a collectible is the much more feasible option of making it temporary since deleting things could make other things go boom. And expired things would give event item collectors something else to collect. Too bad coding isn't as easy as waving a magic wand, then Yasu (and all the other coders out there) could wave his wand at all the problems we come up for him to solve. Having done a little coding, I know it that at times never mind finding the needle try finding all the bugs in the hay stack even the sneaky one hiding where you least expect it while trying to get the hay stack just right.

Perhaps no one complains about it on those event because that's how the other events simply work and how people associate those events as working? Aymas and Halloween are two of the biggest events and have a long established way of doing things that is different than most other events including the currency rolling over and at this point the lose of stockpiles and ease of use is overshadowing the potentially lower shop prices and easier acquisition.

Lol of course nobody speaks their opinion. Everyone gets offended or upset about everything here. One of the reasons I only log in is to collect my bonus.

"The currency will be like the dragon event where you just randomly find it i the adventure zone" - As long as it's still adventure based, I'm quite happy with the change. :) If it doesn't work out well for this event, the site can always go back to the old ways, or try something new for the next one.

I normally don't have much to say about changes (I can accept stuff from other's points of view) but I wholeheartedly agree about the disappointment with the currency.
I've been working very hard for some years now, and last year and this year I won't have much time to gather currency. The stock I had of candy canes and snowflakes was build up painstakingly by either adventuring extra during calm years of my life or by buying it.
Now I am not even sure if I'll be able to get any of the seasonal stuff because of a lack of time and energy :/

I'd love to hear what kind of arguments there were against the item based currency.
Most users who had time collected a lot and sold or gifted the surplus away to people who didn't have time, dropped in halfway through the event, or were rather new. I can kind of maybe see how 'old users' would have an advantage but that's with pretty much everything, we've had more time to build up stocks of currency, we have more and better items, and that all came from either time investment or money investment, and that's an advantage new users will gain too over time, as long as they can spare either.
I think this is kind of punishing old users, something you should never do in my opinion, the advantages we have were hard earned and the benefits of prolonged membership should be highlighted if nothing else.

Again, I'd really like to see the exact arguments on this and I may revise my opinion depending on them.

*read some of the comments*
Ah so it's because the fact that it's
1. Easier to program because of a rarity difficulty
2. No artificial inflation of the price because of stashed stocks

I do get that 'benefit for old users' better now.
I think it would be beneficial to add those reasons to the newspost?
Still not toooo convinced but if those are the reasons I can live with it at least.

As someone who's been a newbie, I can get the frustration that leads to this solution. As an older player who tried to save up a bit of currencies for the next year to come, I also get how this can feel like a denial or punishment. Pleasing everyone is just an impossible task...

But why can't we just try and see? I mean, no one will die in the process, and there have been changes to this site already that some don't like much but which won't prevent them from playing (breeding items? NPC? Explore vs adventure? Month upgrades you can't buy with BP anymore?...). Let's experiment first, then analyze the results...

Eve (#2775) that makes a lot of sense then. I can understand not wanting to code more in.

It still makes it harder though for people who are unable to participate in adventure. Not going into the people who just don't like it ... but the people (like myself ) who want to play, but due to rl can't. I mean the last couple events I've been so low on the event currency (except candy) that I've had to skip 90% of the cool items in the shop to just try to get a couple of the pets ... I know at Easter I didn't have enough to get any of the HA items.

Maybe if there was a passive "spell" like the one from the October premium item that let you accumulate currency passively while on the site it would help. I'm not sure how well that went over, but it is a way for people who want to play on the site, but don't have time to be in the adventure area because the time they have is limited, to still be able to get points.

Another thing for physical items besides being tradeable is that they can some times show up in random places like cooking. So going to a non-item currency takes away those channels for collection as well.

I agree with tae it’s not really easy to obtain the currency so I’ve bought a lot from other users. I’m royally screwed for time this year so yeah not happy at all about the change. Does this mean pumpkins are useless now too? :(

This does provide an issue for people who have mobile access or limited time. I'd rather we have an item-based currency that wipes at the end of each event, much like the raffle crystals of old.

I could grouch about how the older players are getting thrown under the bus again... but nah, I actually like you guys focusing on making sure the newer players don't get left out.

I'm less enthused about more "closed" comment systems because we need just as many open comment systems as well. Closed comment systems are good for people who are concerned, but the real goal is to ensure that the player base doesn't get jumped on. A lot of my sarcasm and lashing back at people in comments is because they've been aggressive to me for criticizing the site. If we can build a environment where open crit is as welcome as open positivity, that'll do more than just having closed comments.

Also I've seen mods used closed comment systems as a way to hide crit, so I'm gunshy about doing more of them, especially when a topic is about how the community feels that staff handled something.

All in all, I feel that staff needs to do a bit more on their part to be more open, but as of page 8 or so on these comments, it looks like you've cop'd to how more polls, news posts, and feedback should have been applied before this change. Good on you, and we'll see how the event goes.
