Just in time for the holidays~

collectable_candycane.pngcollectable_snowflake.png

I know that everyone is looking forward to the Holiday Lane opening, don't worry it hasn't been forgotten! We have been experiencing some shop glitches(all admin side) so we're behind on a few things. The pets are going to be stocked and it will be open shortly, however I do want to forwarn everyone that we will be having a new currency! One of the major points of feedback we have received is how older users get an advantage when it comes to events. So to help with this we are going to begin having the events with a non-item currency, so this currency will not be tradeable and everyone will start fresh every year.
We will be trying to think of a trade in for all your candy canes and snowflakes that you have been sitting on for the past few years, but they will not be the main currency this year.

collectable_angrypumpkin.png

Speaking of our feedback! We have finally finished compiling all of the comments we got and we are thrilled with the amount of feedback! There was several comments specifically stating that they loved the anonymous feedback, without worrying about what the other users will think of them or their opinions. Due to this we are intending on doing this more often, however it also brings us a great deal of sadness how many people stated that they were actually afraid to post their opinions where other users could see it.

That isn't right. I know that Aywas is going through quite a bit right now, but we are all a large family. Nobody should be afraid of any others, and Staff will not tolerate abuse. So I wish to remind everyone, if you are being harassed, if somebody is insulting you, or even just bothering you, whether it is on a thread, pet comments, news comments, PM's, anywhere, please contact one of our moderators. That is what they are here for. To help make you feel comfortable.

Now, I am going to go through and address several points that were brought up in the closed comments but to prevent cluttering up the news post further please come over to this thread if you are curious~

Edit: catching up I see that mass deletion is a problem. Thats... unfortunate. If conversion is a better and more safe option, perhaps go with that? Like I don't feel that "organize yourselves and solve the problem as a community!' ISN'T an answer for a staff-created problem. That was the "solution" for the Halloween candy issue and being told that reasonably upset quite a lot of the userbase. I hope you can see that to rebuild trust that'd we'd be looking for staff to meet us halfway here.

I've been on the site for ~2 years, and we actually have had an event that the currency was collected in this manner. I feel like it might have been the Bamboo Forest event? (It might have been the Music/Concert Hall event or the Apocalypse event last Halloween). We were able to see how much currency we'd acquired by going to the Seasonal Shop, which didn't have any items stocked at the time. That method seemed to work fairly well, and I was able to get one of every item in the shop from adventuring a reasonable amount.

As a newer player, I have had concerns during seasonal events where I couldn't even finish my pet collection after adventuring for what I felt was a long time. I had a ton of currency at Valentine's - Nikki and I went out of our way to buy Love Letters and send them, and we still couldn't complete our Valentine's Pet collection. We just didn't have enough for everything we needed from the shop. And on Halloween I was able to get a few things, and I had plenty of Candy for the Candy items, but overall I just gave up on being able to get all the site pets as they come out during events because the seasonal shops have been very expensive compared to what I was able to gather. I'm glad that this change will make it so that the shop prices are less inflated.

In regards to the raffle ticket erase method, I only brought that up because I knew it was something already done on site, and assumed it would be easier to code than adding an additional currency like BP. Perhaps something closer to what Flaming Catz mentioned, where the item stops working after the end of the event would be easier? I assume changes to an item's use are easier to code than a whole new currency, but either way, having a trade-able currency is important.

I'm one of the people that usually buy event currency, as I'm not much for adventure.

Account bound event currency tend to make me go "UGH" and then adventure for a few hours, in order to get the HA items I want. The crazy part, though... I can generally afford what I want just from adventuring a tiny bit in the account bound events. That's never the case with "repeated currency events".
From a game point perspective, making every user start from scratch in each event makes perfect sense. I'm pretty sure it will make events more enjoyable overall.

Not being able to trade the currency, probably also means the actual pets and items suddenly gets value in trading and user shops. I still expect to buy my stuff. I'll just buy the items rather than the currency like this.

And yeah, I totally spend 10 GP on Halloween currency this year, and only spent around half. I'm losing out some as well. But then, I guess I'm used to spend GP on the HA items I want...

Guys, there is another game that has non-transferable event currency (Lioden) and their users don't complain about it. The staff are giving it a chance for this event to see if it works better than the old currency has.

To be fair Lioden has fixed prices, there's almost nothing else to do there, and it's always been like that. It work for Lioden because Lioden is different. These sites are not the same.

They changed the prices 1 event because of the game they were adding and since they didn't tell people openly beforehand a lot of people got upset .

Also smaller notes people complain all the time about it and I personally don't understand the X site does it because in my experience the same thing doesn't work for every site.

Wooow, that jeweled odlak. *o* Unfortunate that I don't have a jeweled crystal to create it, but hopefully I can breed one later. Those are beautiful!

I feel that people whom are upset over not being able to purchase currency are overlooking the fact that they're still able to purchase items from the events, just not the currency. You can advertise buying X items just as you've always done for the currencies, there's nothing truly different about the way to go about purchasing except you have to be more direct? If you have no time for adventure and would've just bought the currency, whats stopping you from buying the pets/items from the event from other users? The items will retain value (a major complaint from users), and you'll be able to get what you want at the same time! They may even be cheaper because the new item prices will reflect a new currency.

I am perfectly fine with the currency change. Only a tad sad since I liked to personally collect them for collecting sake :P It has worked in the past with events similar to it (Dragon, Fairy, ect), and will prove to be just as workable in the future. This will cause items to be cheaper in the long run because it wont be based on currency that has been hoarded since the site had its first Aymas.

I would like to see a possible "Last Hurrah" shop for the Snowflakes and Candy Canes so that people who have hoarded them can still spend them in a way. So that there can be a clear "This is the last year to use them" warning for users. That might help ease the feeling of some users feeling cheated by this sudden change.

I was kinda upset first, because I'm the 'work first, no time to adventure' kinda player, but yeah, I guess it's going to be easier to farm for BP and pour it into the system, after all, the sink works splendidly, amirite? Yeah, that's me and my sarcasm. At this point, I don't even have an opinion, outta spoons. The GP shop will be unaffected by the change and that's where the good stuff is. The Event items are probably going to be things I don't need much of, so I'll try to rest well.

The main issue with buying items instead of currency has a few problems. Let me go over a few issues i've had with this on other sites. (I mean no disrespect here, just that some people or staff who think this is a good idea may not have had this experience before. If you have and still think it's a good idea, no harm, no foul, we just have a difference of opinion on what works better).

Step one: adventure as much as you can. since we have no idea what the costs are beforehand (which is what other sites do with limited time currency), just... put in as much work as you can. This is a big problem this time of year when people are desperately trying to earn money for the holidays, or are tied up in holiday obligations. So it's a pretty safe bet thet a good number of people are going to fall short.

Step 2: the shops open and resellers get to work... sort of. The main issue with finding and selling things on this site is that our forum system isn't searchable. Like really. If we could just friggin search our forums, so much would be easier. The economy would skyrocket. Please staff, let the next big project you put money into be fixing the forum search.

but okay! so we can't search the forums, So what you do is... wade through the various selling posts. because guess what? people aren't going to pre-buy items, they're going to keep a stock of points and advertise their services. you know how I know? I did that for a brief while with my pp points, until i realized that I should just buy radioactive coins because they gave me the best profit. With this however, it's a limited time event and people will want a wide range of things, so resellers aren't going to have time to "solve" what items sells and shove them into their stores.

This means storefronts are going to be useless.

So the only answer will be- that's right!- back to trying to hammer out trades with real live people.

Now we hit the major issue here, because if you have limited time to adventure, you DEFINITELY have limited time to scour the forums, contact someone, see if they really do have the proper number of points, and then keep doing that until you have a hit. (this also btw, is one of the larger issues buying gp with bp). So people with limited time are going to get hit twice as hard with this change. ...which considering that this change is supposed to benefit people who aren't deep in the system, is a problem.

So what's the answer? simple. an exchange for points. Keep it so that points wipe, but let people put up bunches of points for sale. an example of that is here: https://oi66.tinypic.com/67kzn8.jpg

Now khimeros is a blasted hellsite, but even a stopped clock is right twice a day. More importantly, once this system is developed, you can put it into use for any other currency. gp into bp, bp into gp, exc (i exclude sp and pp because iirc those were supposed to stay account bound). The investment works not only for all future events, but also for a longstanding issue on the site.

Otherwise this change does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. this change hurts those with limited time and access. this change can be one for the better but only as long as you LISTEN to us, and make the changes now, while you still have time, instead of digging your heels in and saying "no" to everything.
