EU/UK Purchases

Site Update

I was going to bundle this with the other news updates, but those will be going out tomorrow. If you are an EU/UK citizen and buy GP or USD items, please be sure to read this news post very carefully as this will affect you from this point forward.

Due to new EU laws that came into effect January 1st, we can no longer accept "instant" purchases from our EU or UK customers. It would require us to have a EU server to store your private data as well as remit tax to the individual country that the customer comes from. This is too much of an administrative burden on Aywas, and as a result we cannot accept those types of purchases from EU/UK folks anymore.

While we understand it is an annoying process, we will only be able to accept orders from UK/EU customers as detailed in this Knowledge Base article. It is a "manual" method that meets the qualifications of having human interaction involved in the purchase under the new EU law.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately this is the new state of the law and there is nothing we can do about it. The only alternative was blocking EU/UK customers entirely from purchasing from Aywas, and we would rather have a manual method available, even if slow, than do that :(

Bethy, if you look at the steps, I believe they're not too difficult to follow at least.

Tha\anks to Slash and staff for a prompt and (insofar as possible) workable solution to what is proving a thorny problem for many sites. Wondering how this UK/EU move will affect world (as opposed to online) economy?

I'm seriously annoyed by this, but at the same time I'm impressed at the site's efforts to not cut us EU/UK citizens off completely. Kudoz, Slash and the others!

I'm still worried about events like the Teo sales, though. Not only because I think the bonuses might pose a problem now (eg if a bonus kicks in at midnight, but we have to order a day in advance, do we get that bonus or not?), but also because of the possible delays. Ordering things a day in advance will prolly suffice in general, but during such events, I imagine the amount of purchases will skyrocketh. How long will it take, then, until we have our stuff? I worry about that...

Again, I want to stress that I do not blame the site or its tireless workers who will have to go through the trouble of processing all these manual orders. I just wonder what the inevitable consequences will be...

Hmm, I'm curious as to how awesome coupons would work too

The site will have to make an executive decision regarding when timed itmes kick off - at order, or on completion, and not only post it but include it in News that affect the function. Then those involved can plan accordingly. Discount items like the coupons should operate normally, I would think, like any other coupon or offer used in an online transaction.

...Ideally, I'd like to see them use the "postmark" - order placement - the way snail mail contests used to : if your entry was postmarked by the deadline, it counted no matter how long it took to reack its destination. Don't know how this will work out here on a technical level, though.

Oh, thanks EU for screwing us over again... But I'm so grateful to Aywas for working around it rather than cutting us off completely, even though it sounds like it will be more of a hassle for the staff than the users. I'm just dreading what stores will decide to just cut us off. If Steam does, I will honestly cry...

J.A.K. (#15) May I suggest, for events such as the Teo egg bonuses, that Aywas release the information and bonus tiers one day (or more) before being able to actually claim a Teo? That way, everyone has a chance to buy their stuff in advance, so it'll just be a rush to claim Teos at the start of the new day, rather than a rush to buy GP/USD stuff and claim the bonus first. Then everyone has the same chance again, even though EU people would need to plan ahead.

This totally sucks for the EU/UK players. Since some wouldn't want to go through all of that listed in the KB, could we US players advertise that we'll help them? I mean, they can't be excluded from these purchases or you'll lose a large player base...
