"The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley"

I know my last news post said there would be a slew of news from me over the weekend, however as you can gather things resumed their attempts to keep me from doing what I've promised!

The first fantastic news, though, is that the queues are officially all processed and empty, and ready to be filled again! I haven't tagged in Yasu to get us up and running again yet, but I plan to do that once this post has been made, so the queues will be open again very soon.

Which brings me to the mixed bag you're about to dive into...

Common Genus Holiday Makers
These items are a nice and cheap option to make some lovely pets, but with the fluctuation of rules loosening and tightening, no one really knows where they stand - including staff!

Due to this the decision to retire the Orange and Holiday Custom Crystals and Orbs has been made.
(The Coal and Silver Holiday items will be remaining active.)

But don't despair!

You will be able to trade them in for Blue Custom items - 1 will get you an unbreedable item, 5 will get you the breedable item. Exchanges will be set up in the Annoying Item Bazaar.

You also have until September 19th to upload any pets you want to attempt to put through the four common holiday queues, before the items are retired from custom making.

Cracked Nova Crystal Orb
People have asked about unbreedable Uncommon items for a while now, and we thought that instead of releasing four new items we would consolidate them into one super custom maker.

The Cracked Nova Crystal Orb can make an unbreedable custom of any Uncommon genus (excluding the Sevryn) that has 0-75% edits. It is now stocking in the SP Shop for 3 SP.

Genus Changing Amulet
Another user request has been that we create an Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus change item - but we thought that no one needs the hassle of another item when we have one that's perfectly fine as it is!

From today the Amulet will support both Common-to-Common AND Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus changes, within their own region (for example, you still won't be able to change a Drylis into a Melo, and you won't be able to change an Oakl into an Unus).

Vion Planter
Just when you think I'm done... Well, after this I am because I need a nap.

Do you have a gorgeous Vion that you just can't force to under 50%? Have you shaken your fist at the skies and cursed my name for it? Well, curse no longer!

The Vion Planter is a 75% Vion custom maker. It's not going to be an incredibly common item, much like the Bottled Celestial Stream, but we're giving you a head start on grabbing them with a 1 day release into the GP shop at an undisclosed time over the next two weeks.

Keep your eyes peeled for your 24 hour warning for this sale!

A quick word from our sponsors before I go...

It seems that the poor Cauldron Custom thread is as dusty, empty, and disappointing as a certain item I'm not mentioning...

We have some cute designs in there, but nowhere near enough for our needs!

Please know that if we don't get enough designs posted, we won't be able to host a cauldron this year. Also, if you're not a fan of posting on multiple threads and don't mind where your designs end up, then you can throw all your designs in the link above because that thread will also be used to choose Adventure and Shop pets from too!

CC and Orange items were easy to get a few years back - in recent memory they have been rather hard to get/pricey, or so I seem to recall. granted, eliminating holiday themes will make custom queues easier to process (which no one will complain about, lol), but I rather enjoyed them and CCs in particular allowed a very nice option for holiday gifting, either made on in the rough. I'll miss them - doubt I'll turn them in. will keep them as memorabilia of Old Aywas - I already have a large collection of items retired before I even got here, lol.

...looking at the CCs, had a thought - what if they were made No Edits? it seems like a workable compromise, making them still usable, good for beginners and custom gifting. possible?

Nope, it wasn't Slash, it was Kaiyo. In the same conversation that consists of my boreas gcc design they did. they said to give them or some mod the details so I just responded with the details. I didn't really want to push it any further because when I was done waiting patiently the whole big switch happened and I thought Kaiyo was dealing with a lot at the time so I didn't want to push it.. So I guess it's my own choice i waited so long to say anything.. but it was for reason, no? but yeah.. it's been a couple weeks since that (I think? my sense of time is wack) though so i thought it would be perhaps okay to poke now.. but for some reason i was too scared to do it via the pms... IDK... just in case they were still too busy. Kaiyo's list of responsibilities seems to escalate quickly after all.. or at least i feel like they /just/ became a mod when they became temp (?) manager (or whatever the position is called)..though yeah.. sense of time thing so maybe i'm underestimating how much time passed lmao.

but i also felt if i poked pubicly maybe i could get another mod's attention then. If that make's sense. In case Kaiyo is indeed still way too busy. I'm just been getting antsier and antsier because I've been with this completed, but more or less useless (to me) design for months and I just want something that i could use.. (i think the more broke i become irl , i weirdly get even antsier. probably due to me valuing the money i spent more lol) and i gave my suggestion because the artist already got paid probably. as it's been months and it was submitted as completed. i just feel it makes sense in a way that there'd be like no "damages" in the end with that solution. that site wouldn't lose money (or have wasted it, paying for a un-usable design). and nor would myself! And idk, i'm just getting increasingly paranoid i'm gonna be left with a short stick for rather..lame.. to be blunt .. reasons... so yeah, basically afraid of me being kinda punished in the end for something that is/was out of my control.

I mean.. if the artist's style wasn't so unique.. i'd look for someone to maybe fix it for less the cost of a whole 'nother finn egg and i'd be cool with that, but the artist's style is pretty dang unique if i do say so myself. (also bummed because the artist seemed like a really cool person, they even sent me a pm in which it appeared they really got why i'm so vocal about things.. so reporting them hurt my friggin soul.. so yeah i'm extra salty about it all. sorry if it comes across as such. i am trying to keep the saltiness under wraps as its personal.. but .. i suck at that.. :'c)

Really makes me think that the deadline should be a little lax (though maybe it is already?) and that that crystal checks should be required for designs before they can be submitted as complete, unless it is stated the the ruling doesn't matter. Maybe crystal checks specifically for gcc designs could jump to the beginning of the line so to speak... if that wouldn't be an issue... this would prevent stuff like this. plus gold custom makes are usually so much more expensive than blue/bronze ones that it kinda sucks to get gold when you want blue/bronze regardless. some might see that as a good thing. and usually i don't mind even. but for some people whom can't readily afford custom makers its pretty cruddy for them.... And mine's an exceptionally colluded case 'cause it's a finn design and yeah, there's no gold custom maker for Finn. D:

Kai said I could split it in half and make two and then breed them together but idk.. that would require two blue finn makers... which i do have.. but idk.. i'd rather have two unique designs. or i'd rather sell one. if anything i'd want to sell one to pay for a potential gold finn custom maker if that is ever released.. as i'd rather have a full gen one (I have a thing for gen ones.. well.. not /that/ kind of "thing", but you know what i mean xD) rather than a bred one made from the split "two" designs... I'm still not completely sold on LBC/PLBCs.. as they seem sorta Frankensteiny to me.. though i've seen gorgeous outcomes from them sometimes... idk.. .

i just really, really wish the artist didn't poof. i literally begged for an answer like 5 times (usually over a week between each begging) because i hate doing this reporting thing. so it's bit of a bummer to have bit the bullet and done that and still not get an answer. And I'm afraid of never being able to forgive myself if they end up getting banned regardless if they deserve or not. i just really don't want to be the guy/person that pulled the trigger so to speak... not a good example for the situation probably but still... just super sad by it all ;; orz

Kaiyo (#489) - That's why I said that payment doesn't necessarily need to be currency. It'd be lovely if there was a 'credit shop' for items like recolor potions, animated crystals, adventure items like speed/strength/toughness potions, CIPs, etc. Wouldn't be putting more currency into circulation, nor release USD items without backing. Things users would find useful :)

The big issue I have with the whole "there's sooooo much GP and BP out there!!!" argument is that there's a small percentage of users that have it in any great quantity, and the inflated prices make it harder for new and average users to acquire. Unless you're an artist OR unless you've got a LOT of pocket money OR unless you're a shut-in with nothing to do but mindlessly click in adventure (and hope you're not tagged as a Bot and banned), getting BP/GP is rather difficult.

Eve (#2775) I think a lot of users would just make their unbreedable novas with silver crumbs instead, so I don't know that there will be many people spending their SP on Nova crumbs - it doesn't make sense to, but I know the cost of flame orbs/crystals make pricing tricky.

On a more interesting note, I have over 80+ psd uses that, depending on coloring, would work for holiday makers. I need more custom makers....but I'd assumed there would be time to color them/acquire makers. :/

Really sad about the holiday custom creators. I was one of those people that had an uneven number to trade in for the breedable option, so had to burn through some bp to make the trades. There would have been no way I could get so many holiday theme colorings done and submitted (I don't color, I have to to hire someone) in 6 days. Hence the trade in route.

I'm a pretty casual player, and I've spent a decent amount on aywas over the years buying GP and USD stuff to make customs and do breedings. Having a cheaper option to make Halloween theme stuff (which is a favorite of mine), was really nice to have from time to time. I like to have breedable pets because my lair is open for other breeders too. I don't want to seem harsh, just expressing my sadness cause I really enjoyed the orange ones in particular.

Tequila Mockingbird (#64472) - I'm not going to lie to you, I have a migraine and that is one heck of a wall of text to get through, so I won't lie - I have skimmed it so I don't leave you without a reply.

I understand you didn't bump the PM with Kai out of respect for the extra workload she was undertaking at the time, but please also recognise that the workload doesn't get lighter - so while she will have been working through the PMs towards yours, many more piled straight back on top of it. It's why we all request if a PM hasn't been responded to that you bump it.

Kai became a moderator in October of '14 - which going by the number of your account is actually before you joined *chuckles* So you've never actually known her as a user - but it's okay, it's something a lot of people mistake =)

As a future note, in those situations if your artist has ignored your PMs for more than 2 weeks always contact a moderator - the longer you leave it, the harder it is for us to get hold of them too.

Calico ☕ (#25718) - True, it's definitely an option, though always tricky to them have to get them formally recognised as their species (something we do hope to fix in the upcoming months - sadly being given the freedom to finally fix a lot of things that are overdue being done has coincided with trying to prepare for the biggest events of the year, so trying to do everything at once means some things are taking far longer than we (and certainly everyone else!) would like XD)

Now I wish that I hadn't decided to delay my holiday plushie project until after my terrariums were done! Guess that one won't be happening. Ah well. (It was gonna be plushies with holiday-themed prints. Pretty straightforward use of the themes.) I'm not sure where the confusion was, since the Knowledge Base article spelled it out really nicely. I'm REALLY glad we get at least a week, though--this way I'm only angry, not ragequitting. (I've got 6 commissions for holiday items specifically that are in progress--I had to cancel three due to the tight deadline, but the artist says they can manage the other three.) So it's not a total loss. Even though it still REALLY sucks. :(

I WILL say that I'm super happy about the genus changing amulet change, though. That at least softened the blow.

I'm rather disappointed in the change for the occ, oco, etc, but I understand why it's being done. I just think the exchange rate is a bit unfair. :/ Where I could make 6 breedable customs I now can only make 1. That's beyond disappointing. I could understand maybe a 2 or 3 per, but not 5. *sigh* Sucks for me cuz I just recently traded to get more because I absolutely LOVE Halloween, and used those crystals/orbs as often as I could find designs.

Oh, I'm very disappointed about the holiday makers. If I had known they would someday retire, I would have used them earlier. With life going the way it is now, there's absolutely no way I'd be able to make any by the deadline.

So upset at the holiday custom makers being retired.....I like to submit designs around holidays and give them away.
