"The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft agley"

I know my last news post said there would be a slew of news from me over the weekend, however as you can gather things resumed their attempts to keep me from doing what I've promised!

The first fantastic news, though, is that the queues are officially all processed and empty, and ready to be filled again! I haven't tagged in Yasu to get us up and running again yet, but I plan to do that once this post has been made, so the queues will be open again very soon.

Which brings me to the mixed bag you're about to dive into...

Common Genus Holiday Makers
These items are a nice and cheap option to make some lovely pets, but with the fluctuation of rules loosening and tightening, no one really knows where they stand - including staff!

Due to this the decision to retire the Orange and Holiday Custom Crystals and Orbs has been made.
(The Coal and Silver Holiday items will be remaining active.)

But don't despair!

You will be able to trade them in for Blue Custom items - 1 will get you an unbreedable item, 5 will get you the breedable item. Exchanges will be set up in the Annoying Item Bazaar.

You also have until September 19th to upload any pets you want to attempt to put through the four common holiday queues, before the items are retired from custom making.

Cracked Nova Crystal Orb
People have asked about unbreedable Uncommon items for a while now, and we thought that instead of releasing four new items we would consolidate them into one super custom maker.

The Cracked Nova Crystal Orb can make an unbreedable custom of any Uncommon genus (excluding the Sevryn) that has 0-75% edits. It is now stocking in the SP Shop for 3 SP.

Genus Changing Amulet
Another user request has been that we create an Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus change item - but we thought that no one needs the hassle of another item when we have one that's perfectly fine as it is!

From today the Amulet will support both Common-to-Common AND Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus changes, within their own region (for example, you still won't be able to change a Drylis into a Melo, and you won't be able to change an Oakl into an Unus).

Vion Planter
Just when you think I'm done... Well, after this I am because I need a nap.

Do you have a gorgeous Vion that you just can't force to under 50%? Have you shaken your fist at the skies and cursed my name for it? Well, curse no longer!

The Vion Planter is a 75% Vion custom maker. It's not going to be an incredibly common item, much like the Bottled Celestial Stream, but we're giving you a head start on grabbing them with a 1 day release into the GP shop at an undisclosed time over the next two weeks.

Keep your eyes peeled for your 24 hour warning for this sale!

A quick word from our sponsors before I go...

It seems that the poor Cauldron Custom thread is as dusty, empty, and disappointing as a certain item I'm not mentioning...

We have some cute designs in there, but nowhere near enough for our needs!

Please know that if we don't get enough designs posted, we won't be able to host a cauldron this year. Also, if you're not a fan of posting on multiple threads and don't mind where your designs end up, then you can throw all your designs in the link above because that thread will also be used to choose Adventure and Shop pets from too!

Uhm 3SP for an unbreedable pet is really not very reasonable.

Meh i'm not really sorry to see them go honestly; i mean, the rulings on them and what is okay for them and what isn't has been so wishy-washy for years that I never used them anyway.

Not to mention the fact there are literally thousands of them out there; so they are barely worth anything. I understand why people are frustrated but, to me at least, its not a great loss.

I am with Calico ☕ (#25718)! the custom makers make the events!!

I have had a busy year and used any but I really don't want to turn them in for unbreedables... and 5 per breedable is a bit high.

I can understand and see the reasoning behind this. I just wish it didn't affect newcomers as much. Holiday custom makers were so great to give away to newbies. Cheap, easily accessible during the holidays... they really were perfect, just not in execution.

I suppose if you made the holiday custom potion items cheaper (such as Magic Soot Potion, Pumpkin Patch Potion, Love Potion #9) in seasonal shops, it would be a good solution to that! They don't have all the stringent rules, which is super nice.

Tequila Mockingbird (#64472) - Since it was a design ticket I'm assuming you were talking to Slash..? Since he's no longer here it probably would have been best to message another member of staff that could have helped, such as Kai or myself. I personally can't see any PMs from you on the subject, and while I can't speak for Kai I do know that if she's missed a PM then a bump after a week will usually get her attention very quickly. I really am sorry that the situation hasn't been resolved but if it's not been passed on to an active member of staff then there really is nothing that we could have done to help you

Taena (#66637) - I agree, from both a user and admin standpoint. The rules are too subjective to be fair to anyone, and was one of the reasons that previous admins (not just previous custom admins) had supported the eventual removal of these items too.

Wisp & Lei (#1343) - I'll be honest I hadn't considered it, bronze isn't an often used item so I didn't think there would be much call for it. I'll talk to the others, though, see how they feel about it. We can probably do them for 3 items a-piece if they're okay with the idea ^^

I understand that I'm seen as a biased source, but these items have purposefully not been in circulation in Adventure since I believe 2010 or 2011, and were only in the event shops, and then only obtainable from chance items (such as crackers) definitely last year, if not longer. People are complaining about an item that was phased out of active circulation before I even came into this position, and that I'm just taking that final step that has been on the books since I was still a fresh Green.

In saying that, I'm not in any way suggesting people can't be upset, annoyed, or even angry - it's to be expected, and even a part of me looks at my pile of holiday custom items and think about the dozens of customs I've never bothered making to work with them, and going "well I guess I can't now" XDD It's a natural reaction that I understand and don't begrudge.

I've seen USD commissions mentioned once or twice - these items no longer being functional will not stop people making any customs they have commissioned, and I'm sure most people have the ability to make at least 1 BCC since these items are apparently flooded onto new users as a welcome gift XD;

So, how are we going to be able to afford custom creators now...? Real money? :/

There is several custom makers that are available just through medium to hard work. Custom Orbs are for sale for Blue paws, which is easily obtained in adventure. There is also the Token species from the Trash shop, which if you are premium you can trash an unlimited amount of items a day. Neither of these are very difficult to obtain, there is also the holiday custom potion makers that are available every year. The prehistoric portal and Mermaids purse which can be obtained through different means using adventure.

As for the users saying the custom makers made the events, staff is very well aware that the past few holidays have been a little lack luster, and we are working on some new and I personally think very exciting plans to bring some life back to them.

We know that these changes are not going to make everyone happy, change is scary to begin with, and when we are taking away items it is even worse. We just ask for everyone to please be patient, Aywas is entering a new phase of growth that it has not had in a very long time, and to do that we have to shed some of our older baggage. We have a lot of things that need repaired before we can truly push forward, this means a lot of change will be coming as we work on moving ahead.

Eve (#2775) - thank you for validating users' feelings. Considering how often the staff response is along the lines of "It's easier for US, so too bad for you", it's gratifying to hear staff say "we understand you're upset, and WHY you're upset, and that's ok, sometimes change really sucks". Sometimes that's all we users need. :)

One thing that would help is better rewards/payout for user submissions. Considering a user can make 5-10 GP - or more, for those very skilled/popular - just for coloring, 5 GP for an edited pet isn't worth the effort for most. At least with a site pet/adventure pet you can also count on getting a copy of the pet for yourself; but 5 GP for an edited unique pet for someone else to own when you could just sell the unique outright for 20, 30+ GP - there's no motivation there to produce at that level. The payout doesn't have to be GP (in fact, I think a lot of people would also like BP), or in currency at all, but the return isn't going to be worth it to most users.

As for the custom makers you mentioned - I've never yet managed to get a prehistoric portal OR a Mermaid's purse. The cost of BP items has gone up and up and up - the amount of time you have to spend adventuring is astronomical. Easily obtained - perhaps - at a very, very slow rate. And even then you need to unlock the zones and master them to get the best possible return. A newbie would be at it for quite a while on their own. Tokens are about all they'd get for some time, depending on their luck at getting better rarity items adventuring to trash.

Though...if custom-makers are 'baggage', I'm not looking forward to a 'new phase of growth', to be honest.

I'm aware the mods may dislike/resent my comments, but I'm reasoning from a user's perspective. One other thought on things in this news post:

It's actually CHEAPER for a user to make nova-level unbreedable customs with silver crumbs than the cracked Nova orb, isn't it? Considering how difficult it is for the average user to acquire SP, the current cost of Flame Orbs/Crystals, and the more ready availablity of silver crystal crumbs, it seems like a useless item to appear to appease demand. I'd imagine OCC/OCO/CCCC/CCCO to have more worth to site users than the Cracked Nova Orb.

We have raised the payments for events, as well as added new tiers with worthwhile rewards. Due to the amount of pets that get accepted for the site events we cannot raise the prices too much, since it is just flooding the site with more unbacked GP. Which is a major issue that we are already trying to battle, BP and GP are not very sought after other than for a handful of items, because there is so much already on site.

The items you are talking about are expensive, however when they were announced it was also said that they were BP sinks, which is why they are so expensive. Any other items is because of what I just mentioned, where BP really has very little worth so it is inflation. I am not saying that is good, just that is why it is. We are wanting to work on the economy but that goes back to my last post that there is a lot of things that need fixed and it is a long process and involves getting rid of a lot of things and re-purposing others.

Certain custom makers are baggage, when they cause more stress for both users and staff or when they help to harm the economy, which the holiday makers did both, and then some.

These decisions were not made lightly, as Eve had mentioned they had been in discussion since Skitty's time, however we chose now as the time to finally do it, before even more got into circulation. We know that not everyone is happy about this, and we are going to be offering other possibilities this holiday season. I can only ask that everyone please just try to hold out and trust us a little bit <3 We're not just yanking things away and cackling off into the distance, we are just doing prep work for things to come.

I won't deny that the Cracked Nova Crystal Orb is a little steep - but it's very hard to decide how to price it when FCO and FCC are 2 and 3 GP respectively, and their Nova counterparts 21 and 24 GP XD;

Flame being so cheap is why we've been reluctant to release an unbreedable version since their market value is where we would have priced them - so it's geared more towards unbreedable novas (though again, I do see the point that it's a little hefty for even that).

We'll look into it, but I'm not sure how viable it is to make it too much cheaper seeing as their breedable counterparts are already pretty cheap for the level of edits they offer ^^;
