I know my last news post said there would be a slew of news from me over the weekend, however as you can gather things resumed their attempts to keep me from doing what I've promised!
The first fantastic news, though, is that the queues are officially all processed and empty, and ready to be filled again! I haven't tagged in Yasu to get us up and running again yet, but I plan to do that once this post has been made, so the queues will be open again very soon.
Which brings me to the mixed bag you're about to dive into...
Common Genus Holiday Makers
These items are a nice and cheap option to make some lovely pets, but with the fluctuation of rules loosening and tightening, no one really knows where they stand - including staff!
Due to this the decision to retire the Orange and Holiday Custom Crystals and Orbs has been made.
(The Coal and Silver Holiday items will be remaining active.)
But don't despair!
You will be able to trade them in for Blue Custom items - 1 will get you an unbreedable item, 5 will get you the breedable item. Exchanges will be set up in the Annoying Item Bazaar.
You also have until September 19th to upload any pets you want to attempt to put through the four common holiday queues, before the items are retired from custom making.
Cracked Nova Crystal Orb
People have asked about unbreedable Uncommon items for a while now, and we thought that instead of releasing four new items we would consolidate them into one super custom maker.
The Cracked Nova Crystal Orb can make an unbreedable custom of any Uncommon genus (excluding the Sevryn) that has 0-75% edits. It is now stocking in the SP Shop for 3 SP.
Genus Changing Amulet
Another user request has been that we create an Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus change item - but we thought that no one needs the hassle of another item when we have one that's perfectly fine as it is!
From today the Amulet will support both Common-to-Common AND Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus changes, within their own region (for example, you still won't be able to change a Drylis into a Melo, and you won't be able to change an Oakl into an Unus).
Vion Planter
Just when you think I'm done... Well, after this I am because I need a nap.
Do you have a gorgeous Vion that you just can't force to under 50%? Have you shaken your fist at the skies and cursed my name for it? Well, curse no longer!
The Vion Planter is a 75% Vion custom maker. It's not going to be an incredibly common item, much like the Bottled Celestial Stream, but we're giving you a head start on grabbing them with a 1 day release into the GP shop at an undisclosed time over the next two weeks.

It seems that the poor Cauldron Custom thread is as dusty, empty, and disappointing as a certain item I'm not mentioning...
We have some cute designs in there, but nowhere near enough for our needs!

To be completely honest, I know that this situation is frustrating, however if it had been up to me, I had voted to remove the items immediately, without a grace period at all, but Eve talked me down on that one. There is a rediculous amount of these items on site, and their not as widely used as one would expect. Then when they are used they tend to be a source of aggravation for staff and users due to previous inconsistencies and differing opinions.

It's not unreasonable to expect something you worked hard to acquire to remain useable...outside of Aywas, at least. I guess I'll be madly coloring pets this week.

I'm not overly upset about the change, I guess - I've found it difficult to know what's holiday themed enough. But I kind of think it'd have been nice to at least leave the custom makers available the year out - after all those two big holidays are just around the corner (well one is, the other will be here before we know it).

Though controversial, I'm glad to see the issue has been dealt with regarding seasonal makers, and that there's a nice alternative for handing them in. :)

Eve (#2775) -Is there anyway it can be talked over to try and extend this?? I know like most people thinking these were good for eternity we've put designs for them on the back burners >>;. If we could have like a month, I would be happy, sounds like a few players might be as well.
Not to mention focusing on the retiring two custom makers there would keep us from making anything for the cauldron D: !

Well part of the reason they weren't being used as much was because awhile back staff thought they had too loose of guidelines, then tightened them up so hard it was difficult to get anything non-stereotypical through. The price in shops and use plummeted after that.
It's like if you have an item in a store, but suddenly you move it alllll the way to the back, in the unlit part of the discount section, and make it only available via specific types of payment, about every third Tuesday or so. Then when sales predictibly go down, stop selling it because "there just isn't demand for it". Oh, realy, is it because it wasnt popular? Or was it because you stocked it back in the land of spidertown and only accepted golden commemorative dollar coins for it? I'm guessing the spidertown/golden dollar thing.
Like this isn't new, eve has said many times on their tumblr that they hated how many of them there were on site or how people were trying to "get away" with designs. So I'm not shocked these are getting the axe, but don't act like there isn't more to why the items were falling out of use. Also like when personal opinion trumped user demand, can we at least get a month like with the sphinx pets? A week is solid bull, esp during the school season.

I wish this removal could have waited to after the holiday festival to be done. Like other stated September is a busy month for a lot of people. Plus not all of us are fast at making good customs. On top of that I've been considering doing a user run event in the forums but doing this mess up the prizes.

I am not surprised that the items have been discontinued, but I do agree one week is too short to make many customs. I don't think I am the only person who has a stash of them.

I have no idea why they were confusing-I'm confused about that. (Okay, I couldn't resist!) And I have several of them. Oh well. And yeah, only a week's warning....why such short warnings on this site? I don't get that. Oh well.
