I know my last news post said there would be a slew of news from me over the weekend, however as you can gather things resumed their attempts to keep me from doing what I've promised!
The first fantastic news, though, is that the queues are officially all processed and empty, and ready to be filled again! I haven't tagged in Yasu to get us up and running again yet, but I plan to do that once this post has been made, so the queues will be open again very soon.
Which brings me to the mixed bag you're about to dive into...
Common Genus Holiday Makers
These items are a nice and cheap option to make some lovely pets, but with the fluctuation of rules loosening and tightening, no one really knows where they stand - including staff!
Due to this the decision to retire the Orange and Holiday Custom Crystals and Orbs has been made.
(The Coal and Silver Holiday items will be remaining active.)
But don't despair!
You will be able to trade them in for Blue Custom items - 1 will get you an unbreedable item, 5 will get you the breedable item. Exchanges will be set up in the Annoying Item Bazaar.
You also have until September 19th to upload any pets you want to attempt to put through the four common holiday queues, before the items are retired from custom making.
Cracked Nova Crystal Orb
People have asked about unbreedable Uncommon items for a while now, and we thought that instead of releasing four new items we would consolidate them into one super custom maker.
The Cracked Nova Crystal Orb can make an unbreedable custom of any Uncommon genus (excluding the Sevryn) that has 0-75% edits. It is now stocking in the SP Shop for 3 SP.
Genus Changing Amulet
Another user request has been that we create an Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus change item - but we thought that no one needs the hassle of another item when we have one that's perfectly fine as it is!
From today the Amulet will support both Common-to-Common AND Uncommon-to-Uncommon genus changes, within their own region (for example, you still won't be able to change a Drylis into a Melo, and you won't be able to change an Oakl into an Unus).
Vion Planter
Just when you think I'm done... Well, after this I am because I need a nap.
Do you have a gorgeous Vion that you just can't force to under 50%? Have you shaken your fist at the skies and cursed my name for it? Well, curse no longer!
The Vion Planter is a 75% Vion custom maker. It's not going to be an incredibly common item, much like the Bottled Celestial Stream, but we're giving you a head start on grabbing them with a 1 day release into the GP shop at an undisclosed time over the next two weeks.

It seems that the poor Cauldron Custom thread is as dusty, empty, and disappointing as a certain item I'm not mentioning...
We have some cute designs in there, but nowhere near enough for our needs!

I won't lie and say that an overall frustration with the items played a factor in not feeling bad about retiring these items - but they've been monitored for years. This was a discussion had two custom admins ago that has continued through to earlier this year when I stated I wanted to follow my predecessors' advice and retire the items.
Even before we tried to regulate it, and even with Slash's loose interpretation of both the themes and custom percentages, the items haven't had any real popularity for nearly three years now. They were already extremely cheap to buy before Gray installed any of the more rigid rules. This is mostly due to the fact that there are literally tens of thousands of these items on site - every account over 2 years old is practically saturated in them. Thousands flooded on site every year with barely a handful ever being used - it was why the decision was made a while back to not release them through Adventure any more.
So what seems like a snap decision, a painfully short deadline, and a cruel custom admin just looking to be rid of four of her smallest queues... It's really just many years of careful watching, monitoring, and realisation that these items simply lost any true worth they had long before I ever had the power to instate an action that multiple admins before me had already asked to make themselves.

Yeah I agree with everyone else this really blows about the holiday custom makers. I've been saving mine up and slowly getting designs made to use them a little at a time. Now I have to rush to try to get the designs I want done, this really sucks you guys...you should've given us more time then just 6 days. SMDH

I have a few questions:
First I placed a few costums into the Crystal Check (before this was announced), if one or more could be uploaded with this crystals/orbs, could we maybe upload it after the deadline?
Second: Oakl and Unus, could they be uploaded with this costum creators or do we need other?

ppsstt.. Gold Finn custom maker maybe??? I still don't know what I'm supposed to do with mine from the design ticket feature. the artist obviously isn't gonna fix it by now. They've pretty much disappeared months ago. After they said they would fix it (but never did) I reported it. but it's been awhile and I never heard back...
the only issue (well one of a couple actually) i have though is a gold custom maker would be very expensive probably and I have all these blue custom makers.. I just.. idk... i didn't ask for a gold design so having to spend more for the custom maker would be crappy.
it's very depressing too as I spent usd on the design ticket... i just kinda wish i could just submit it as blue as it's only a few percentage more than 50. logistically it makes the most sense as it would cost me anything more nor would it cost the site anything more (as the artist has been paid). Punishing the artist, if that happens, doesn't help the situation in the end anyways, not to me - the victim in this scenario.
I don't think it would be a can of worms type of thing to have exceptions due to case by case circumstances. the word "exception" isn't an arbitrary word either. it exists for a reason and is common irl. even in businesses and governments (which mean in law as well - via loopholes and such). this is a pixel pet site.... so... /shrug
(saying this publicly because i've been waiting forever for an answer and i can only be so patient.. yes i didn't want to bother anyone during the big change which is around when i started to get nervous i'd never get an answer... this is me at a breaking point. i don't mean anything personally. I just simply don't understand certain things i was more or less told initially when discussing this... and i have thought long and hard about it for a very very long time...)
p.s. on a positive note. I'm not complaining about the holiday custom makers which i have many of. I can get a bunch of bccs now.. though now bccs will probably go super low in price so maybe i should try to squeeze in some christmas/halloween designs. but...i'm so lazy... kinda the reason i've barely used any so far... >w>

All great news, except for the holidays items one... I really like them and they reminds me of good old times.
But I understand why they were retired and I appreciate receiving the regular custom creator in exchange ^^ thanks <3

I am kinda glade to see them go, there was never any real like rule's on them and the one's that where was the color markings and some that passed just made my go what X.x

Ugh.. but those custom makers were great! And now, when we would get 5 breedable customs, we only get 1?? Why such an awful trade value? :/
This is also not enougb time for us to get our designs together for such an unfortunate sudden change.

Custom maker qualms aside since there's not much to talk of that hasn't already been mentioned, I feel a lot of the reason there's so few submissions for the Cauldron because it has the same reward as the Adventure shop. I mean, if someone makes a pet they like, why let someone else have it as a custom when you can have it in adventure and make sure you get it yourself? That's just my general thought process.
