EU/UK Purchases

Site Update

I was going to bundle this with the other news updates, but those will be going out tomorrow. If you are an EU/UK citizen and buy GP or USD items, please be sure to read this news post very carefully as this will affect you from this point forward.

Due to new EU laws that came into effect January 1st, we can no longer accept "instant" purchases from our EU or UK customers. It would require us to have a EU server to store your private data as well as remit tax to the individual country that the customer comes from. This is too much of an administrative burden on Aywas, and as a result we cannot accept those types of purchases from EU/UK folks anymore.

While we understand it is an annoying process, we will only be able to accept orders from UK/EU customers as detailed in this Knowledge Base article. It is a "manual" method that meets the qualifications of having human interaction involved in the purchase under the new EU law.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately this is the new state of the law and there is nothing we can do about it. The only alternative was blocking EU/UK customers entirely from purchasing from Aywas, and we would rather have a manual method available, even if slow, than do that :(

Do we still get the credits for Bonus collecting if we are from EU and have to use the manual option?

Will we still be able to make the payments over paypal by direct debit? Since I don't have a credit card (sorry if that's a dumb question)

Well that sucks a lot. I put a lot of money in Aywas and this is going to make it nightmarishly complicated. Not you guys' fault though.

I will say this; I hope that this will be taken into consideration when you're thinking of running time sensitive cash shop reward events, like the recent teo ones. If we'd had to wait for it all to be processed manually we would have missed everything from the pot. Just a thought.

I completely agree with Celtie (#34865) I feel that, for the most part, if someone is willing to help by buying the item for you then they're going to give you everything you bought, including the bonuses they'd like, unless otherwise stated beforehand.

However if they're working with someone outside the UK/EU for something like teo eggs, they're still going to have to plan in advance. And they would be getting their Teo eggs and other bonuses later do to the other user having to wait for the bonus to open up and then finding the bonuses and sending them to the other user. And it's that much more difficult if a single person is helping multiple people. What if they accidentally mix up what someone wants, or spend too little or too much? There's so many things that'll still be difficult and you still won't really be able to buy things on the spur of the moment. So yes, you're avoiding one headache, but you could very well be throwing yourself into a new headache that's only somewhat faster. So it's still crappy no matter what you do ;~; ~Kat

I only read up to page 4, so if this has been said already, my apologies. A head's up to EU residents - from what I've read, this law will be extended to physical items (not only digital) in 2016.

There's a petition that can be signed against the VAT laws here:

And a Facebook group with VAT discussions that the admins might find useful here:

i read about this on tumblr like a day before it went into effect uou not only is this bad for eu/uk customers, it's bad for small businesses who have to pull their digital goods to avoid having to deal with this. since again, storing every transaction's information for ten years? charging a different VAT tax for every individual country that a customer is located in? yea right. on one hand, idk how they expect to enforce this, but on the other hand it is law now unfortunately. so many people who have up commissions online don't know about this at all. i hope they won't have to find out the hard way.

Ugh. As someone who has spent countless hours processing invoices and dealing with random tax irregularities this law sounds like an absolute nightmare for small companies doing international business. I think a lot of businesses that get occasional EU customers will end up cutting them off instead of jumping through all the hoops.

As for things like Teo events, shouldn't this problem be somewhat averted with the new bonus saving system? You could buy GP days in advance, whenever an upcoming Teo event is announced, and then just wait to cash out your bonus until the eggs go up. I can see more of a problem with things like, "Spend X amount on this day and get this bonus item" like the eggnogs given out recently, but if the window is a couple days or if staff made it clear that any order placed within the window qualifies regardless of time of fulfillment then it should work out okay.

I was hoping to get some last minute GP for eggnog yesterday, but since I'm in the UK and have had to go manual I've missed the time gap that I would have otherwise managed to get >.< Now I'm $14.85 down for nothing really, and still GPless :C
