Males with darker manes attract more females, but they have a lower sperm count than males with lighter manes because the males with lighter manes attract less heat. So the females go for the darker males but their breeding rate will suffer.

Sorry for double posting looks like I'm reposting: Of all the big cats, the Siberian Tiger is the largest.. Which means they are better in lions.. in the size department XD

In recent studies Scientist have been able to prove through puppets/stuffed dummies that Female Lions prefer Males with a darker Mane then those with a lighter Mane. Unfortunately, with the darker Mane attracts the heat of the sun, making the Male's sperm count low if not infertile.

Growing up I always claimed that my favorite animal was a panther. Recently I learned that a panther is not a species of animal, but rather a family of big cats that tigers, lions, jaguars, and leopards. Members of the panthera (panther) family are the only cats with the ability to roar.

The offspring of a male lion and a female tiger is a liger, but the offspring of a male tiger and a female lion is known as a tigon. Ligers are more common than tigons.
