Shelter Event

Pets

January is a tough time for shelters. Puppies and kittens are a popular gift for Christmas, but by the time January and February roll around, local shelters are hit by a wave of unwanted Christmas presents. When the novelty of the gift wears off, puppies and kittens are unloaded on shelters in droves, often overwhelming them.

I got my cat from a shelter, and I've been planning on making a large donation to the shelter I got her from. Here she is, by the way.

If you'd like to join with me and contribute to the shelter, I am selling metal customs of the above Oske lineart for $10.00. Half will go to the shelter I'm donating to. With your purchase you'll be sent this item, which you can use to upload your kitty in a box:

If you have a shelter in your town, consider stopping by and giving them a donation - money, pet food, anything you can afford. Right now, they really need it.

Please don't donate to the huge national organizations like Humane Society (do some research on them). They don't help your local shelter.

Thanks.

Why are you guys grilling Slash about where the other half is going? 50% is extremely generous when you consider the operating costs of a site like this, especially taking into account that it's not a percentage of a profit, but a percentage, period. You're buying a custom making item and Slash is generous enough to donate a large portion of that purchase to a real, local animal shelter.

If it makes you uncomfortable to participate in the event, just go support a local shelter, yourself. There's really no need to be so vocally negative about a charitable event. No one is forcing you to participate :/

I already stated that I figured the other 1/2 was going to run the site.
I just think it would help ease the tension if they said what it was actually going to.(the other half)

The other half goes to paying costs and federal and state taxes and other beautiful things like that, like every other GP purchase. If you don't like that your $5 is going toward supporting the site, then you are encouraged to go to your local animal shelter and donate your full $10 there.

(You wouldn't get anything from us, but at least your donation would be tax deductible.)

I donated myself, and I know that every little bit helps, so the shelter will be happy for what they receive. I just think that maybe more people would donate if they said where the other proceeds were going to.

I'm just really happy that this site does this kind of stuff, cause most sites just pocket the money for themselves.
I don't want anyone to think that I'm not grateful for what this site is doing for the animals.

It's not people trying to be negative about it, it's just out of character. I can see KEEPING a portion of donations to cover the item art and pet art. But I just have this feeling that there are plenty enough people buying this custom making item to cover the costs of both, and there should be plenty remaining to donate. It's not unreasonable for people to know what the rest of the costs are going towards exactly. To someones pocket? For site things? It's a simple enough question. It is just out of character to take advantage of a donation event to make some extra cash on the side. If the site needs more money for something, make an event that makes people buy more gold like normal? Idk. It just seems slightly tasteless? But yeah, I have no problem with the 50%, provided it's being reasonably used. But I don't know that. Sooo. *shrug* It's not too much to ask what our money is going towards.

And there is the slightly less vague answer after I just spent a sleepy 15 minutes typing. xD Bleh.

Well, myself personally, I donate hundreds to rescues, and donate my time and extra needed items to shelters all the time.
So I don't mind. I can go donate $10 to a shelter as well. I have to go bring in the extra dog collars and food anyway.

Pound puppies and kitties are the best <3 pretty much all of our dogs have been rescues and they're just so loving. You can tell they appreciate having a forever home.
