Policy Change Poll

Pets

Currently, the on-site policy regarding mistakes is that:

If the administration or programmers cannot reproduce a "glitch" that irreversibly changed your pet, you will not get it back, unless it's a custom.

Currently, people who buy GP are arguing that if they paid GP to buy their pet, like a Monthly or a Special Edition, and make a mistake with a potion (for example), they should get the pet back because it was bought with real money.

This would work like this: if you have donated and bought the pet through the GP store, you have the right to have your pet changed back if something happens to it by user mistake (NOT glitch, glitches are always refunded). If you didn't, you don't.

So, the user who gains a Monthly Pet/Super Rare/Limited through Rogue, Hippie Mushroom, Glittering Rock, Eggs, the Wild, etc and accidentally change it are SOL because it wasn't bought through the GP Shop.

My stance against this is, in essence, I don't want to discriminate between the user who earns their rare pet through site means to the user who buys their pet in the GP shop. So they both get the same response: "Sorry, user error, not a glitch."

But I'm willing to change the policy to make special conditions for users whose pets they accidentally messed up, if they bought them through the GP Shop--if that's what the majority thinks is fair and right.

Policy Change?
Yes, if the pet is bought through the GP shop, user mistakes that change that pet should be refunded
No, all treatment should be equal (and for god's sake, put up a confirmation page!)
I am ambivalent to this policy.

I believe the only mistake as far as active pets go that I have made is that I have fed the wrong pet. I'll go to fill Jaith's hunger so that I can explore, but end up filling one of my other pets instead. I don't mind that, though.

See, okay, on Neopets -- if you feed your pet an item, like a morphing potion, it immediately happens to your active pet. There's no warning, no asking are you sure, no telling you it's even going to go to your active pet. This is why I assumed it was really obvious that the items affect your active pet.

Damn. No free rocks then? xD I think maybe the idea of a 'pet reset' button would be good. That way if you screw up, you can just set your pet back to whatever form you'd saved him as. Like I do with photoshop projects and things. xP

Plain and simple, no specail treatment, everyone knows that crap happens so watch ur active pet b4 playing with potions etc... Not fair to those who can't afford GP and "mistake" their pets fait.. Keep the field even and for gods sake put up a confirmaton button!!

True, but you must remember, Slash, some of us have not played Neo in years. Some don't remember how things work there, and some have never played at all. Some people may be expecting (As on Wajas) that there will be a list of their pets on the next page for them to choose from or something. Of course, once there is a confirmation page, that issue should be cleared up.

I agree with Slash, and what Gwen wrote waaay up there ^ Honestly... if you're not sure, why not ASK to be SURE? :( It would take 2 minutes tops for someone to tell you that it had to be your active pet. That's my big issue on this all. x_x Being new isn't an excuse, in my opinion. Nobody's going to look down on you for asking a question or looking for help. ^^; It's what the help boards are there for. I think if people would have asked somebody else, at least half (probably more like all) of the issues would have been solved before they even occurred. :( Unless for some reason you have absolutely NO access to mail or forums... I dunno. I do feel bad for those that have missed out, yes, but I think the current rule is the best and the fairest, because lots of people have already been turned down.

Yeah, Jos was kind of expecting it to be like on wajas. xD Although the first time I used an item like that here I did change my active pet just in case. =P

In my opinion, the site tutorial (which everyone is encouraged to read) would make things easier if there were a section about how everything you do affects your active pet and ONLY your active pet. Just a simply two lines of "All items, games, and events affect your ACTIVE pet. Change your active pet by doing this:" blablabla.

That's a good idea, Figment :)

I have to disagree with the glittering rock thing too. Say I accidentally used a random potion on my common shop pet. Like hell I'm going to use a rare, 45 GP item to get my common as dirt pet that I have likely replaced anyway back. >_>; I'm going to see which there is the fewest of, and make THAT pet. I didn't do this though, because I assumed, like food and every other instant use item, it was on the active pet, so I used it on the pet I wanted too. Why would one item work different then the others for use? Anyway, Equal rights, and a confrontationally obvious "CONFIRM!???" page.
