Problems I

Pets

The optimization and talking to the guy who did it has brought up some major longevity problems with Aywas. We cannot go on as we are: with so many pets and items. We cannot.

The first problem is pets. There are too many pets owned by users. Before I changed the capture success rate to 10%, you were getting them at 50%. There are over ten THOUSAND pets on the site in two weeks.

The second problem is items. There are too many, again. The games hand them out like crack. The inventory table is also essentially what's causing the site to lag even though we've optimized.

These two things combined will kill Aywas. It will. I need some solutions.

Obviously there's the idea that we can wipe everything and start fresh for beta testing and move out of alpha, with the 10% capture rate and reducing how many items the games give out. It will hurt but it would be the best option.

Alternately, we can provide a mass deletion option so you can delete your items/pets that you don't need. like, keep your super rares but ditch everything uncom and com for the good of the site. This might work. We don't know. But it's something worth trying.

Obviously I'm hoping for other possibilities. But the future is dark for aywas if we go as we are. This is only a temporary solution, the optimizing we did, and it will eventually crack and break.

So, does anyone have alternatives?

Also- how about limiting/stopping the apprentices you get from exploring? Perhaps make them a Tamas/games only reward? Also- perhaps have apprentices as non-entities of a sort- ie you can breed from them but they can't be an active pet.
- The choice to have some pets as image only- meaning they are the same as my idea for the apprentices. You catch them, but then you have the choice to never be able to breed/use as main character. Truthfully- I like having the aywas, but I usually only focus on one or two as Main characters- common or not.

Limiting the strays/wild ones that take a liking to you. Also how about getting the choice to release one of your other pets in order to keep a battled/found pet?

*umms* I know I had more points before, I'll keep thinking out of the box again.

Bah, post didn't work.

Agree: get rid of strays entirely. (The 'you made a friend while exploring!' is essentially the same thing.)

limit on the total number of pets. Set a cap at fifty or so. (Orr... I dunno, like pokemon? You can only have ten 'out', and the rest go into some sort of storage? Would that actually help with space? xD)

change Zave to... one item per pet, or ten items total? OR, yes, just have him feed all your pets.

fewer types of items? *shrugs* I don't know if that would help, but there is essentially no difference between all the colors of acoberry and ocoberry.

Disagree: less pets seen while exploring. I explore to catch pets. You can take the capture rate down even less if you'd like, though.

Unless you're willing to hand back every single penny users have spent on getting items and Aywas from the GP shop, you cannot possibly expect the option of starting over fresh to work. It is not fair in the slightest. Mass deletion is definitely more reasonable. As has already been suggested, I think allowing users to throw away all of their extra items in the Trash Dump would be great. 20 items would probably be a good limit on how many each user can keep for now. Putting a cap on how many Aywas each user can own is also recommended. Anywhere from five to ten would probably work, with the option to buy more slots purely with GP. Users should have the choice of which Aywas they get to keep, and all others should be completely deleted, along with all Aywas that are currently strays. Perhaps you could try making a sort of shop for selling unwanted Aywas to, like they did on Wajas for a while?

Mass Delete option. Dude, I only *technically* have 4 pets right now, and I only really want 2 of them, 1 I'm debating keeping. I want a way to get rid of the 4th without having to spend the little BP I have. I would happily delete pets from the system.

(Sorry for the double post, it said my comment was too long.)

Also. We have too many items/pets right now, so there is no way to avoid a sort of mass delete, yes? We HAVE to get rid of the excess junk. So... for items, I doubt anyone will mind dumping their cheap foods, apprentices and armor, which is probably where most of the extra comes in - start with that. And for pets... no idea. =/

I really don't have any ideas on what would solve this, but a mass-deletion sounds preferable to wiping the slate...I don't think I could start over again after that. Even though it hasn't even been a month...Oh! Maybe the items sent to the dump should be automatically deleted from the system?

Id be for a mass deletion option as well. *nods* As long as we got to keep customs and a few of our closer pets such an option could work well.

The stray system, as cool as it is, should perhaps be done away with altogether. Once its gone, its gone. Deleted. Perhaps condense items? Why have like, 5 different items that do the same exact thing? Also as much as I hate to say it... Zave's shop. If you have a full cave with more than 90, thats 90 new items on the system every night. o.o

One last idea - is there a way to "cash in" stuff we've bought from the GP store? For instance, if I make some choices and delete lots of pets, I won't need my 50 extra slots that I bought. I'd be glad to give those 50 slots back for the GP credit I spent. I dunno if that's possible, though, and might get kind of crazy with the records. I'm kinda wishing I hadn't done it now.

Some potential suggestions to minimize space issues:

1) Get rid of strays. This one's defintiely already been said, but if strays cease to exist, then they won't just be roaming the database. Pets should just be auto-deleted when they are released.

2) Change the aywa-trading policy. As it currently stands, you have to have an aywa to get a different aywa from another player. I end up just catching random Aywas that I don't even want just so that I can trade them for Aywas that I do want. Allowing users to direct-sent Aywas to other users would get rid of this problem.

3) Get rid of all but the rare apprentices. Seriously. The rainbows are just sitting in my invo staring at me and they have no purpose because I don't want them, nobody else wants them, and I feel bad trashing them because they're like baby pets. Just don't have them. I would probably hold on to the Diamon Dust and other super rares though. They don't take up as much space anyways.

4) Inventory caps. This has also already been suggested. I think it's feasible.
