Problems I

Pets

The optimization and talking to the guy who did it has brought up some major longevity problems with Aywas. We cannot go on as we are: with so many pets and items. We cannot.

The first problem is pets. There are too many pets owned by users. Before I changed the capture success rate to 10%, you were getting them at 50%. There are over ten THOUSAND pets on the site in two weeks.

The second problem is items. There are too many, again. The games hand them out like crack. The inventory table is also essentially what's causing the site to lag even though we've optimized.

These two things combined will kill Aywas. It will. I need some solutions.

Obviously there's the idea that we can wipe everything and start fresh for beta testing and move out of alpha, with the 10% capture rate and reducing how many items the games give out. It will hurt but it would be the best option.

Alternately, we can provide a mass deletion option so you can delete your items/pets that you don't need. like, keep your super rares but ditch everything uncom and com for the good of the site. This might work. We don't know. But it's something worth trying.

Obviously I'm hoping for other possibilities. But the future is dark for aywas if we go as we are. This is only a temporary solution, the optimizing we did, and it will eventually crack and break.

So, does anyone have alternatives?

One other request, if we are given the option to keep some items, appreciate if we could be given some (just some) time to do that as I live in the opposite of the globe and would usually miss anything that has to happen in a couple of hours during your day eg raffles, quick quizes etc.

Mass Delete option. Dude, I only *technically* have 4 pets right now, and I only really want 2 of them, 1 I'm debating keeping. I want a way to get rid of the 4th without having to spend the little BP I have. I would happily delete pets from the system.

I don't think there should be any strays-- at all. Once they're released, they don't "roam".

If the site code won't scale right now for there to be 50 pets per member, how is it going to scale when there are 5000 members? Will each member only be allowed to have 1/10 of a pet to make the current code work?

What is the average population of a lair? I know that mine is well above average, but what is the average? If there are problems right now with that average size, as I said, what happens when there are 50 times as many members? The same thing as now, is my back-of-an-envelope estimate of an answer.

So if there are big problems, there needs to be a big code rewrite to correct those problems.

As to 'what to do' about the current issue, whatever people all decide is best.

I would like a mass deletion. I would be really upset if I lost all my progress :l Do we still get to keep our BP?

And if we are going to have to release our pets and get rid of our items, I'd think mass delete/dump/release options should be available.

Comment too long *mutters*

Agree with mass deletion.

Thoughts to help.
- Limit/stop the aywas which like you while exploring (or the ones who pop up randomly while doing stuff)

- Put a cap on the inventory. Also another idea have a limit on how much of each type you can have (ie- 20 food, 20 attk/defence items, 20 other (sheets, shoes, globes) and we perhaps buy spaces for the inventory (so it could start off rather low and we buy slots for it) however this would mean changing Zave's food giveaway- perhaps instead of him giving food items out he 'feeds' your active pet and puts their HP to full? That would help with the excess items.

Mass deletion, please. I've not been on here long but I'm proud of the progress my first critter's done, and I'd be sad to lose her or some of my rarer items.

I like the dump idea. If all or most items were allowed to go to the dump - it would get rid of them and we wouldn't necessarily be giving up so much. As far as pets go... I don't know - maybe a max limit on everyone?

So sorry, third post, but...I know I'm hoarding every bit of food that comes across my way, because I haven't seen the food shop stock for a week (except for the last update) and without that, I can't go exploring. If the shops could be coded to stock more regularly, I'm sure people would hoard less, which would free up inventory space.
