Problems I

Pets

The optimization and talking to the guy who did it has brought up some major longevity problems with Aywas. We cannot go on as we are: with so many pets and items. We cannot.

The first problem is pets. There are too many pets owned by users. Before I changed the capture success rate to 10%, you were getting them at 50%. There are over ten THOUSAND pets on the site in two weeks.

The second problem is items. There are too many, again. The games hand them out like crack. The inventory table is also essentially what's causing the site to lag even though we've optimized.

These two things combined will kill Aywas. It will. I need some solutions.

Obviously there's the idea that we can wipe everything and start fresh for beta testing and move out of alpha, with the 10% capture rate and reducing how many items the games give out. It will hurt but it would be the best option.

Alternately, we can provide a mass deletion option so you can delete your items/pets that you don't need. like, keep your super rares but ditch everything uncom and com for the good of the site. This might work. We don't know. But it's something worth trying.

Obviously I'm hoping for other possibilities. But the future is dark for aywas if we go as we are. This is only a temporary solution, the optimizing we did, and it will eventually crack and break.

So, does anyone have alternatives?

Oh, and there are too many stray pets you can get. I come across at least 10 strays a day NOT exploring (just on the forumns).

Sorry for posts for close together - but I would definitely prefer that an item limit is not set. I mean, I have 22 pumpkins and if 20 items is all we can keep, all my super rare food will be lost.
Just let us get rid of everything that is worthless to us. I am sure that will make a huge dent. Any way we can try that first without being given a number limit?

I'd say no wipe, especially for the people who've spent real money on the site D: and the dump is a viable option for item deletion, but the fact that there is no mass dump option is probably keeping people away. A pet slot cap would also be good, maybe like 50? Until then, maybe 10-20 favorites per alpha tester?

I guess mass deletion? D: And perhaps put a cap on how many pets you can have, like maybe up to 100 pets and that's it? I know 100 is a lot it seems, but I've seen some people with 140+ pet slots. Or maybe even down to a 50 pet limit. I'd hate to lose my reves, but if I must... T~T

What about for items, make the dump more efficient, with a mass-dump feature. Then make prices higher for the items you can get at the dump. That might be good for items. Alternatively, for rares and super-rares, you can make them worth 2 points instead of 1, so people won't hold on to those as well. Then for pets, I like the idea someone else mentioned. Limiting the total number you can own. Deletion of all pets currently abandoned and roaming as strays can cut down on non-owned pets. Those are just some of my ideas.

yea, people who already paid real money for stuff would be an issue w/ mass deleting(though I suppose you could always give back the GP if you kept records).

I'm not sure if mass-deletion would even work in the long run, even w/ fewer pets(and possibly slots being harder to get), seeing as that many pets/items will just fill up in the db eventually. (and the 10% capture rate does nothing for amount of items).

I wouldn't mind wiping everything if it became necessary though. Just throwing stuff out there.

Having a pet/item number limit is a good idea, though I'd put it a bit higher than five for pets, if that's at all feasible.

Letting users decide which pets/items to delete would be good. I'd rather not have a complete fresh start... *huggles Nox*

Limit the amount of slots people can have, lower grants from games, add a mass dump option to the dump shop, increase item costs as well, make hunger regen like energy so people who are hoarding masses of food items dont have as much need.

I really dont like the idea of a reset. Alot of people worked really hard to get where they did. It seems a shame. But if it is the best option we should just suck it up.

I agree with the amss deletion, and making sure that people do it. maybe a limit on how many things you can keep...?
