Problems I

Pets

The optimization and talking to the guy who did it has brought up some major longevity problems with Aywas. We cannot go on as we are: with so many pets and items. We cannot.

The first problem is pets. There are too many pets owned by users. Before I changed the capture success rate to 10%, you were getting them at 50%. There are over ten THOUSAND pets on the site in two weeks.

The second problem is items. There are too many, again. The games hand them out like crack. The inventory table is also essentially what's causing the site to lag even though we've optimized.

These two things combined will kill Aywas. It will. I need some solutions.

Obviously there's the idea that we can wipe everything and start fresh for beta testing and move out of alpha, with the 10% capture rate and reducing how many items the games give out. It will hurt but it would be the best option.

Alternately, we can provide a mass deletion option so you can delete your items/pets that you don't need. like, keep your super rares but ditch everything uncom and com for the good of the site. This might work. We don't know. But it's something worth trying.

Obviously I'm hoping for other possibilities. But the future is dark for aywas if we go as we are. This is only a temporary solution, the optimizing we did, and it will eventually crack and break.

So, does anyone have alternatives?

I bought GP and stuff for my breedings and whatnot, I'd be really upset to lose that. After donating and whatnot and having that deleted... I wouldn't enjoy it. Could we at least keep customs and bred pets? I wouldn't care if I had to give up everything else for the sake of those.

people might be more likely to just release pets they don't really need or want if the BP penalty was lower or even nonexistent, IMO.

also, would putting items away in the deposit boxes affect or help the inventory problem in any way? Because if that would help, perhaps putting a limit on how many items we could have out might help...

bleh. I can't really think of much...

oh and also... notice how easy it is to get more pet slots? maybe make it a little more difficult? or... something...

Idunno...just suggestions...

I like the mass deletion alternative.I don't like the idea of losing GP items either:(

I think mass deletion would be good, but do we get to keep our BP's? and keep a few pets. Also those that have brought GP items, they should be able to keep those too i would think.

ps. all customs, super rares, rares and limited pets are kept + like up to 10-20 extra pets

Im with the mass deletion option, I wish to keep my BP and GP and some of my pets that took awhile to get.

I'm definitely leaning more towards the mass delete; also, I worked hard to get my spheres and I'd be heartbroken if I lost everything. xD I could wipe out almost all my pets barring a few special ones, if I had to.

I like the mass deletion, It would be bad to lose everything D:

I don't think starting fresh would do very good unless you replaced customs made/bred with items obtained via GP purchase, or at least refunded the items. Which wouldn't do very well for those who bought magic shop coins for breedings, unless the 100k was refunded. :\ Starting fresh would definitely hurt a lot more than it'd help.

Changing the system of everything now would probably be the best option. The user base is small enough that there wouldn't be much of problem as newer users adapt, and I believe most of the older users come from sites (one in particular >>) that's forced the users to adapt to change without warning or reason.

Unfortunately I don't have any good ideas. Good luck Slashbb. It's a shame you've run into this problem, but I'm glad you caught it early.

Voluntary mass delete would be nice, but not everyone will >.>. If there were a way to enforce that, it may work, heh. Maybe halt all item creation and do something like boost dump points with more items in it? I don't know what'd happen with pets. TREs for x amount of pets?

It probably also doesn't help that there are already so many differently colored adopt, esp. melos. O.o

Full wipe would probably suck for a lot of people, and issues with people having bought GP then other items with that would need to be solved. That is, unless they're willing to treat it purely as donation... . Maybe a DBMS with better scalability is needed (not that the growth now isn't ridiculous)?
