Problems I

Pets

The optimization and talking to the guy who did it has brought up some major longevity problems with Aywas. We cannot go on as we are: with so many pets and items. We cannot.

The first problem is pets. There are too many pets owned by users. Before I changed the capture success rate to 10%, you were getting them at 50%. There are over ten THOUSAND pets on the site in two weeks.

The second problem is items. There are too many, again. The games hand them out like crack. The inventory table is also essentially what's causing the site to lag even though we've optimized.

These two things combined will kill Aywas. It will. I need some solutions.

Obviously there's the idea that we can wipe everything and start fresh for beta testing and move out of alpha, with the 10% capture rate and reducing how many items the games give out. It will hurt but it would be the best option.

Alternately, we can provide a mass deletion option so you can delete your items/pets that you don't need. like, keep your super rares but ditch everything uncom and com for the good of the site. This might work. We don't know. But it's something worth trying.

Obviously I'm hoping for other possibilities. But the future is dark for aywas if we go as we are. This is only a temporary solution, the optimizing we did, and it will eventually crack and break.

So, does anyone have alternatives?

I think mass deletion would be good, but do we get to keep our BP's? and keep a few pets. Also those that have brought GP items, they should be able to keep those too i would think.

I agree with the amss deletion, and making sure that people do it. maybe a limit on how many things you can keep...?

Sorry for posts for close together - but I would definitely prefer that an item limit is not set. I mean, I have 22 pumpkins and if 20 items is all we can keep, all my super rare food will be lost.
Just let us get rid of everything that is worthless to us. I am sure that will make a huge dent. Any way we can try that first without being given a number limit?

The game/s hand out many items - that's was great as many food items were very expensive. We therefore, need a balance here.

The replenish rate for food is far too soon - you explore twice or 3 times with say a stat of 16 for food and energy, one would have to very quickly feed the pets.

I do not mind starting afresh as I certainly do not wish to see the site goes downhill - that will be very sad ...... however, I hope we could at least get to keep a few items and the BP we worked so hard for.

Whatever your decision, we know it would be for the good of the site and I do respect your final decision. Meanwhile, we hang on ......

Limit items gotten from games, maybe even limit the types of items. Do we need clover stones? Dead leaves? Take the orbs/vials out of the dump. Make slots harder to get, period, which would help with milling and increase $ donations. A wipe would be awful, but I'd have a really tough time figuring out what to keep - I'm a packrat. D: What about an inventory size limit? Make people choose their priorities.

Oops, sorry for the double comment...

Also, another thing, why does each and every items have its own ID? If you got rid of that, I'm sure that'd really fix the item problem right there. I'm don't beleive I've seen items with their own ID #s on any other site, so I'm pretty sure that's not a problem...?

'Course, I don't run a pet site, so I wouldn't be completely sure. ^^;;;

yea, people who already paid real money for stuff would be an issue w/ mass deleting(though I suppose you could always give back the GP if you kept records).

I'm not sure if mass-deletion would even work in the long run, even w/ fewer pets(and possibly slots being harder to get), seeing as that many pets/items will just fill up in the db eventually. (and the 10% capture rate does nothing for amount of items).

I wouldn't mind wiping everything if it became necessary though. Just throwing stuff out there.

Just another suggestion to add...Maybe closing applications would help until this is sorted out. That way you don't have more things bogging down the system as well.

Mass deletion. I would be so upset if we lost some of the Super Rares we have, our battle pets and bred ones. Similarly, if I lost all of the pumpkins I've been collecting, I'd.. I don't even know. XD Would we also get to keep GP and BP? - Eri

Sorry for the double post, but if there were a mass deletion, I'd really hope there would be a way to record/refund all the GP and breeding coins bought from the cash shop. I know I've spent quite a bit there.
