Pets
As some of you have found out on your own and/or have seen from the scattered posts among the bugs, help, and admin forums... a few of the recent items currently aren't working.
These said items are...
-Random Rogr Potion*
-Dawn Crystal*
-Metal Crystal*
-Bottled Spring*
-Orange Crystal*
-Flame Crystal*
-Breeding Coin
-Gold Sprinkler
The items marked by a * are items that can be fixed by Slash and will hopefully be working again here soon. Everything else unfortunately has to be fixed by the coders themselves. Now that we actually know the reason for the problem with why these items no longer work we can help prevent this from happening again in the future.
On another note, my last news post asked for some suggestions on how to judge contests. I got a few PMs and some comments on the post... but I got an overwhelming amount of suggestions for actual contests rather than how to hold them. Two contests that were mentioned to me were a Photography Contest and a Crafting Contest. What are your thoughts on these? How should we judge them? Obviously any contest we hold that isn't based on luck or isn't random only caters to certain groups of people. Any ideas for other types of contests we can hold? How could we go about doing this?

I don't know if this has been suggested or not, but I think a Photomanipulation contest would be /epic/ -- take a photo of your real life animal (or someone else's animal in real life) and edit it to look like an aywa pet. I'm dying to color Nova blue. xDD

But yus, I agree with what many of the others have said. There should be a minimum of three /fair/ judges, five at the most, to prevent the decision being the personal opinion of just one judge. Perhaps three who have no interest in ever entering, but are talented at choosing the best entries to win?
Also, perhaps not the same three for each one-- hire a small list (ten, fifteen, twenty?) and rotate them, so the ones who judged the last contest can have a chance to enter the new one if they wish. I think it should be voluntary for the judges, so they're not just 'picked' (in case they planned to enter and really wanted to) but rather, asked to volunteer themselves a week or so before the contest even starts, with a backup or two for some extra opinions. All of this is just suggestions, but I think it sounds the most fair, myself.

I think that for some contests, Judges could pick their favorite/top 2-3 or something and all Aywas users could vote on it. It would be a good thing for caption contests/funny image contests because it would then reflect what the userbase as a whole found funny, not just what the select few judges did.

The photo competition could involve people dressing as Aywas and recreating exploring, like dress as a melo and go take some photos in a field or something? >____> Dressing pets as Aywas maybe. :/
Craft stuff could involve users creating something Aywas related from a certain obejct, like an egg or straws. >__> you could even do it as an Easter thing, and then do pumpkin carving for Halloween etc. Creating sculptures or masks.
You could do caption competitions too, I guess.
As for judging, perhaps have a list of several staff selectd judges, fairly selecting 20 entries to be shortlisted, then letting Aywas players vote for their favourites out of the final selected images.

Personally, I think I'd rather spend $3 on supplies to participate in a crafting contest than spend three hours thinking of a nonfail caption. Other contest ideas: merchandise design (stickers, keychains, etc); another book contest, because the library is super empty; song contest, like someone else mentioned; ummm. Coloring contest, only crayons allowed, lol. I dunno. :E
