Items and Contests 2

Pets

As some of you have found out on your own and/or have seen from the scattered posts among the bugs, help, and admin forums... a few of the recent items currently aren't working.

These said items are...

-Random Rogr Potion*

-Dawn Crystal*

-Metal Crystal*

-Bottled Spring*

-Orange Crystal*

-Flame Crystal*

-Breeding Coin

-Gold Sprinkler

The items marked by a * are items that can be fixed by Slash and will hopefully be working again here soon. Everything else unfortunately has to be fixed by the coders themselves. Now that we actually know the reason for the problem with why these items no longer work we can help prevent this from happening again in the future.

On another note, my last news post asked for some suggestions on how to judge contests. I got a few PMs and some comments on the post... but I got an overwhelming amount of suggestions for actual contests rather than how to hold them. Two contests that were mentioned to me were a Photography Contest and a Crafting Contest. What are your thoughts on these? How should we judge them? Obviously any contest we hold that isn't based on luck or isn't random only caters to certain groups of people. Any ideas for other types of contests we can hold? How could we go about doing this?

Slash says: I have fixed Random Rogr Potion, Bottled Spring, Dawn Crystal, Metal Crystal, Flame Crystal, and Orange Crystal as of 12:49 PM

If you're concerned about excluding parts of the aywas population from contests because their talents don't lie within that contest, you're already doing that... I mean we already have regular contests that exclude a large portion of aywas players - the pet design contests. Sure anyone can stick it on photoshop and try to colour it, but few people actually have the talent to make anything awesome. Especially if we don't have tablets.

So then I think it's almost *necessary* to have other contests. Just we need to have several different ones, so that the chances of people finding at least one that caters to their abilities are higher.

So photography, crafting, poetry, comedy, short stories, youtube videos, all kinds of stuff. The more types, the better. Some can be based on skill - the "best" photograph - and others based on other things - the "funniest" photograph, regardless of skill. etc.

Photography contest plzkthx.

A good idea would be to have different categories such as animal photography, portraits, micro, and still-life then judge each category accordingly.

I would love a crafting contest! While I love drawing, crafting is just...man so fun. How cool would it be to see stuffed animal Aywas? Or Origami, or woodburned, or carved, hats, knitted, needle art, metal etched, needle felted, *goes on for days*

It lets creativity flow! And you know, an art contest is just as bad as anything, some people have photoshop, others only have paint...Some people are 21 and have been drawing for 10 years, some people are 11 and just started...So it's not like it'll be any less fair. And materials are easily found around the house :3

And hey, you cant do this contest really? Join one of the many others :3 Thats what we have the rest for! Like Photography sounds awesome too ^^ :D

"If you're concerned about excluding parts of the aywas population from contests because their talents don't lie within that contest, you're already doing that..." Yes we know this... and it will always be like this. Which is why I asked for suggestions on different types of contests. We hold all sorts of different ranges of contests so at some point during some type of contest, everyone at least has a chance.

Various contests:

Aywas Comic Strip
Aywas Trivia
AMV's/FMV's (The video has to have a picture of an Aywa in it or the actual word)
Photoshop an Aywa into a real picture

Overall I think that any contest held would have to be aywas specific or have something to do with aywas if only to help prevent theft. For that reason I'm not too fond of the idea of a photography contest. It will be very easy for people to claim photos that aren't their own and the judges will have to search the web to see if they entrants grabbed the image from someone else. If the judges are willing to do that then great, I'm all for it.

as a side note on photography contest. i dont think asking to print is fair. a high quality printer is hard to come by. ink is expensive, and so is photo paper.
i think it would be much easier to make photography theft a bannable offense if you are caught stealing.

not to mention, its just as easy to print someone else's photo out, and put a paper on it saying its yours *shrug*

Nobody said anything about printing photos... We're talking about printing out cut outs of characters to use in the photos.
