Items and Contests 2

Pets

As some of you have found out on your own and/or have seen from the scattered posts among the bugs, help, and admin forums... a few of the recent items currently aren't working.

These said items are...

-Random Rogr Potion*

-Dawn Crystal*

-Metal Crystal*

-Bottled Spring*

-Orange Crystal*

-Flame Crystal*

-Breeding Coin

-Gold Sprinkler

The items marked by a * are items that can be fixed by Slash and will hopefully be working again here soon. Everything else unfortunately has to be fixed by the coders themselves. Now that we actually know the reason for the problem with why these items no longer work we can help prevent this from happening again in the future.

On another note, my last news post asked for some suggestions on how to judge contests. I got a few PMs and some comments on the post... but I got an overwhelming amount of suggestions for actual contests rather than how to hold them. Two contests that were mentioned to me were a Photography Contest and a Crafting Contest. What are your thoughts on these? How should we judge them? Obviously any contest we hold that isn't based on luck or isn't random only caters to certain groups of people. Any ideas for other types of contests we can hold? How could we go about doing this?

Slash says: I have fixed Random Rogr Potion, Bottled Spring, Dawn Crystal, Metal Crystal, Flame Crystal, and Orange Crystal as of 12:49 PM

I'm really trying hard, but you guys PLEASE read through other comments. All contests WILL HAVE TO BE Aywas related. So photography contests, will have to deal with Aywas in one or another.

"Yes we know this... and it will always be like this. Which is why I asked for suggestions on different types of contests. We hold all sorts of different ranges of contests so at some point during some type of contest, everyone at least has a chance."

Okay, great - and I wasn't trying to be snarky, either, sorry if it came across that way. The paragraph in the news just kinda sounded like you weren't sure they were good ideas since they were exclusive.

Anyway, that's why I suggested having as many possible different kinds of contests as possible. Poetry, traditional art, various crafting. Internet scavenger hunts (write riddles to which the answer is a website or image).
You could even use youtube videos to have even more variety in contests. Songwriting (about Aywas) or something. Who has the weirdest collection of items (bellybutton lint collecting?). I could be totally self-serving and suggest a pottery contest! Woo!

...Aywas pottery of course. <_<

I've always liked the idea of scavenger hunts. That's out of my area though so Slash would have to get together with the writers on that. I think it would pretty neat though.

I was referring to erienne's post...

"I think it would be neat if we could have a photography caption contest? So you could arrange every day things in the picture, like apples/coconuts or chocolate milk, but the caption would make them relevant to Aywas. So either you could supply the photo and the caption and enter that in for the contest, or you can enter in a photo and then the contest could be to come up with the best caption? Maybe having a piece of paper with Aywas written on it in the corner of the photo could be a requirement too, to ensure they're not googled? - Eri"

Oh I don't have that post here. lol Chaklit milks. If we were to do a caption contest we'd supply the photograph ourselves obviously so we wouldn't have to worry about copyright issues. And if we had any contest that included users taking photographs it would have to be Aywas related like a picture of an Ay in it or something (like the cut out/paper doll contest), so obviously a user of Aywas would have had to take the photo.

*doesn't own a printer or have access to one* ... *fails*

I like the idea of a caption contest - you don't have to be funny, it just helps XD. I'm still not sold on crafting ideas because while someone pointed out that some people have Photoshop, it isn't as though there are not free alternatives such as GIMP, paint.NET and various others that work just as well *soughifnotbettercough* Not to mention people's talent doesn't always rely on their age or experience. I've been drawing digitally for over five years and I still suck XD

My point is though, that there isn't a free alternative when it comes to making plushies or the likes. Contests shouldn't be something we need to pay a small fortune to take part in - that money could just go straight on GP ;)

Obviously when I'm talking about Photoshop as an advantage, I'm talking about the colouration contests... because I must say I've never met anyone who uses Photoshop to create sculptures XD They use cooler 3D programs to test it out on :3

Like I said we hold a variety of contests, if you don't want to participate or don't think you're capable of doing so you don't have to. There will be another chance somewhere in the future to enter into another one.

Oh, no I completely understand that ^^ I mean, it'll be a bit of a trial too when you run them to see the interest in the types of competition and there will likely be more support for the crafting ones that I might expect =)
