You may have noticed the Lockpick Skill popping up in some bred pets - this is a brand new skill that is only obtained through breeding.
"Lockpick" Skill gives your pet a 50% chance of picking the locks of treasure chests found in adventure.
A new challenge has been added to breeding - the ability to breed to pass down skills.
Most skills have a chance of passing down to offspring from parents. Each parent (of the two, items that add a "third parent" to breedings don't count) will contribute a 10% chance of passing the skill to its offspring. Note that the offspring will automatically get a hidden item skill associated with its genus.

New skills will be added over time, and players can have fun trying to breed pets with multiple skills to see if they pass them to their offspring.

Could we somehow get another way to get these skills-? Most people aren't able to breed on a whim....I breed maybe 1-3 times a year.

Derps, RBCs and MBCs don't appear to be included, I'm afraid. But there will likely be people willing to sell their babies with bred skills once there are more of them out there as there are always users who dislike breeding results

Problem with that is if I breed from now on I'm going to try to get more than one hidden item skill on my baby and for that to happen the parents need to have different skills so I would have to choose hidden skills over looks most likely. I'm not saying it's impossible it's just another thing to take into consideration when choosing pairs.

533 customs...i don't know how much babies but i just checked and none of them got "the" skill...

Arc Returns LL (#2229) Yep, Derps dont give hidden skills. But its a little unclear (to me) as to whether you can have a pet with Lockpick, derp that and have the chance that the baby will get pick.
