New Skill + Skill Breeding

Site Update

You may have noticed the Lockpick Skill popping up in some bred pets - this is a brand new skill that is only obtained through breeding.

"Lockpick" Skill gives your pet a 50% chance of picking the locks of treasure chests found in adventure.

A new challenge has been added to breeding - the ability to breed to pass down skills.

Most skills have a chance of passing down to offspring from parents. Each parent (of the two, items that add a "third parent" to breedings don't count) will contribute a 10% chance of passing the skill to its offspring. Note that the offspring will automatically get a hidden item skill associated with its genus.

You can read more about skill breeding here.

New skills will be added over time, and players can have fun trying to breed pets with multiple skills to see if they pass them to their offspring.

Well this sucks, also not thrilled that's its breeding only, I don't breed at all and I don't want too, just to get a skill(s)

[If] each adventure area a pet clears (while the unlocks and ranks remain the same for the player), the pet can choose one skill to have, and those can possibly breed down.<.i>

I think this is actually a really cool idea. It gives more heft to adventure which sounds like something the site is shooting for lately and doesn't take away from the breeding aspect at all. In fact, it could be pretty cool if there was an adventure-only unlocked skill. If you complete all the areas in Ay you get one master skill or something. There could be a second for Ara and/or a second for unlocking all of both Ay and Ara, but I don't think Ara is finished yet so that second idea is kind of moot so far. Idk. Just thinking out loud but I like where this person's idea could go c:

I like the skill breeding concept in general. I think for it to be most beneficial to the site it could be fleshed out and tweaked some, but I think the idea as a whole is pretty cool and adds an entirely new twist to reasons to breed.

with hundreds of treasure chest keys who needs the lock pick skill? its usually a crummy item anyways [sans events]; though it certainly adds value to the pet for everyone here it seems.

I think its a step in the right direction, giving the adventure pets that everyone spends so much time and energy on. A function within the explore.

there is equality in the game, the treasure chest keys. I realize having a shiney new feature is always a top list priority for everyone on site; but it seems like a "can't see the forest due to the trees" syndrome

Semi-Hiatus (#48591) there are a lot of completists on Aywas... people who want this so that their Adventure pet has "all" the skills, but we also don't want to change our Adventure pet to some new bred pet, lol. Many of us have noted that we like this, but likely aren't ever going to get it and/or use it because of this problem.

I have to admit, I'm a bit iffy. I know... Treasure Chest Keys are a guarantee. But outside of events, I'm loathe to use mine. (Even during events, I'm loathe to use them. That started the year they put holiday Crystals/Orbs in chests. Now I save mine in case it happens again!) But even then, not everyone has hundreds of Keys. I myself come across more Chests than Keys.

The lockpick skill would be really amazing for someone like myself to use, because it's free and permanent and it doesn't make me use lots of one-use items that I might not have enough of. But as a breeding-only skill, I can't put it on the pet I've chosen as my Adventuring pet - which happens to be one of my favorite customs. And then what's the use of even trying to get it, if I'm not going to use the pet that has it, you know?

Are currently in queue breed eligible for this or only breed submitted after this point? Thank you.

not sure if it's been mentioned but erm as I recall (I looked), there was a lock pick type item on site already o.o, can't remember if it was retired or not. Like many others I think this is a skill that would be better as something one could purchase or win. Not all of us breed, or if we do some of us choose to rarely for specific reasons. (cost not helping of course...)

I disagree with it not working with pendants?
Pendants have always (at least, by lesser users such as me) been considered regenerating coins that are expensive - and people sure pay a ton for them. Punishing people by saying "if you use pendants, the skills won't pass down!" is not only not going to stop people from using pendants, it feels vindictive.

If you're going to do things like that, you should really change the description of the pendants. For example:
"This pendant functions exactly like a Lesser Breeding Coin, but regenerates after use. It takes two months for it to recharge its powers again, but it's well worth the investment!"

Especially if you're going to be making similar nerfs in the future.
Thanks.
