New Skill + Skill Breeding

Site Update

You may have noticed the Lockpick Skill popping up in some bred pets - this is a brand new skill that is only obtained through breeding.

"Lockpick" Skill gives your pet a 50% chance of picking the locks of treasure chests found in adventure.

A new challenge has been added to breeding - the ability to breed to pass down skills.

Most skills have a chance of passing down to offspring from parents. Each parent (of the two, items that add a "third parent" to breedings don't count) will contribute a 10% chance of passing the skill to its offspring. Note that the offspring will automatically get a hidden item skill associated with its genus.

You can read more about skill breeding here.

New skills will be added over time, and players can have fun trying to breed pets with multiple skills to see if they pass them to their offspring.

I don't see anyone being rude. People are allowed to have a different opinion and should be respected for it, not told they should be quiet and not ask for any changes.

J.A.K. (#15) The knowledge base article has the resulting lockpicking percentages for the last two examples switched. Sorry if youre the wrong person to contact, I couldnt find who maintained the base when I looked at the staff page...

Kayana (#19032) Sure! But opinions go both ways. I'm allowed to state mine too, and mine is simply that I don't understand why this seems to be a huge problem. That's not the same as telling people to shut up. I think there was some kneejerk reaction going on here.

I also don't understand why this is so.. different. We've had lots of hard to get/exclusive items and the like that didn't get the blowback this has so far. I don't even remember it when we were getting teo eggs from breedings and I'd think that was a bigger deal than this.

More than anything, I'm just confused by how upset people are over something that just seems so small.

Semi-Hiatus (#48591) I wasn't aiming that so much at you, but more at the comment that people need to chill when I don't see anyone getting rude or overly upset, just explaining their points of view. ;) However, I think 'small' is a matter of perspective. It doesn't feel like an issue to you, and that's fine. It does to other people here, and that's fine too.

For a lot of people, I think the issue is the same as mine.. I have a couple of favorites, and I use them for Adventuring. I'd rather have additional skills on those favorites and would like a path to achieve that, which would by default not include breeding since those pets already are here. I'd like some options besides breeding, so I can continue to use my favorites, but can still enjoy the benefit of the skill.

Well let me clarify, I can understand being annoyed by something like that, and I'm all for Cake's suggestion (in the now locked thread) for an item that can swap skills. I'm not for buying the skill from the USD shop (I think people are starting to expect -everything- to be in there and that's part of the upset here) or anything like that.

I do get why people wouldn't like it (I'm very poor, can rarely buy GP, can't typically afford to breed myself, etc), I was just surprised by the sheer amount of negativity when there have been so many things that are 'bigger' than didn't get such a strong reaction. Personally, I was more bothered by all the rare/exclusive breeding addons (like the crown of eveglori) that are in limited supply, compared to a skill that won't be. But it's a game, and not everyone can get everything.

TL;DR the reaction just seems out of proportion to how much the skill is worth. I don't think a 50% lockpick chance would be a decider in what adventure pet I would use. It'd mostly be nice for getting more trash points while randomly adventuring than any real practical application, since most people will still use keys for events. Though again, I'm totally cool with a skill moving item or the like.

Yeah it's all basically moot at this point, given the other thread response, but I tend to feel that just because something doesn't trouble me, that doesn't mean anyone else's annoyance is less valid. Truthfully, the lock-picking isn't something so valuable to me that I'm going to be mad about not having it (which I won't, given that I can't put it on the pets I actually use). But I like to beef up my favorites as much as possible, and it's just irritating to not be able to do so through any reasonable means.

Eh well. Que sera, sera. ;)

The reason I agree with with the naysayers on this also isn't "small", in fact it's a major issue. I don't have all the money to throw around on non-derp, non-rbc coins, and those I do are being put towards getting the teo army up to give away to people without them. And this just isn't about the lockpick skill, I've got a ton of keys already, it's for the future abilities that could come down the pipe. What if they release an item chance boost? A lower monster chance one? Like you grab that, stock the pet up with the other abilities from the store, put on a clover stone, lighter, and the other normal fare, and you have a nice ticket to grinding out all the event currency you need or other rare items. While this could lower the cost of some items, when they calculate how much the event items cost, they go by how much is turned in, not by the per-player average.

This means that the people who already have the money to chuck away on breeding will have a bigger advantage, and I'm for equality in game design, not making economic gaps worse.

What Conium trading lls (#39365) said, pretty much, especially the bit about equality in game design.

Also I just remembered, what about the queue? Like the coins applicable already have huge wait times, even on one's that are supposed to come back in three weeks or so (last time I checked). I've got a plbc breeding from a month ago that still hasn't been assigned, and I bet it's not going to be any time soon. Something like this really needed to wait until the breeding system was better under control, since plbcs are going to be one of the more "available" options for this new feature. Great for the coffers, but I don't think they're going to be hiring on enough artists to handle the potential load.

A better idea for this would have been to make it so that each adventure area a pet clears (while the unlocks and ranks remain the same for the player), the pet can choose one skill to have, and those can possibly breed down. There, something that can happen through effort and hard work, and through money.

Speaking of lockpicks.... whatever happened to the lock picks from the event ages ago? I still have, like, twelve, and havent heard what they are good for yet.....
