Internet Censorship

If you haven't already heard of SOPA, it's bill going through committee in the US that basically allows the US government to censor the internet, and makes website owners liable for what users post.

All of us need to protest.

The bill means the government can block what YOU view because one person posts something that infringes copyright. That means all video streaming sites are vulnerable, all forums, all pet sites that allow user content, all social networking sites, the moment someone notices a user posting copyrighted material.

It means that web site owners will be legally liable for what their users post, as opposed to now, where they are required to remove content upon being notified of the infringement. And I dunno about you but that sounds like death to user content everywhere.

The efforts of everyone is necessary in making sure Congress hears our outcry about this. To learn more, search for SOPA in an internet search engine and look at the recent news articles, or go to AmericanCensorship.org.

God, that sucks. It won't only effect the US either, it will effect everywhere since most major sites that are used are from the US.
I signed.

Did my part in sending an email and posting to facebook a link to send an email. I don't think this has a lot of chances of passing and even if it does I believe that the numerous challenges in court would give all the politicians a real cause to regret it but it does show how the American politicians would love to restrict our rights to free speech especially with the OWS movement and their numerous posts to facebook, youtube, and other social networking sites.

EDIT: INCLUDING the right of the people to overthrow any government that becomes too powerful. THey might wanna remember that one. seriously. I can almost garantee if this comes to pass, there will be a revolt of SOME kind against them for taking a freedom away. Congress just can not seem to learn from history. sad.

Thank you for making this. I was actually wondering if Aywas would call attention to this, and I'm proud to say I signed that petition.
