Internet Censorship

If you haven't already heard of SOPA, it's bill going through committee in the US that basically allows the US government to censor the internet, and makes website owners liable for what users post.

All of us need to protest.

The bill means the government can block what YOU view because one person posts something that infringes copyright. That means all video streaming sites are vulnerable, all forums, all pet sites that allow user content, all social networking sites, the moment someone notices a user posting copyrighted material.

It means that web site owners will be legally liable for what their users post, as opposed to now, where they are required to remove content upon being notified of the infringement. And I dunno about you but that sounds like death to user content everywhere.

The efforts of everyone is necessary in making sure Congress hears our outcry about this. To learn more, search for SOPA in an internet search engine and look at the recent news articles, or go to AmericanCensorship.org.

Signed when I first heard about it. I even got an email back from my congressman saying they're thinking about our thoughts because of the amount of notes they're getting. This still has a very high chance of passing, supposedly :/ So many big companies are backing this, and dumping so much money. I'll hate the internet if this passes :c

Why do they need a right to censor things anyways. That's a job for people to censor tv programs.

Can I copy and paste some bits and pieces of what was written about the bill on my FB page?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'm not even from the US, but I signed. This would affect everyone on such a large scale. It is frightening that there are attempts to censor things in our modern day.

Umm, I guess I should clarify, just reread what I typed, what Ara.Org (#15) had typed. I really like how it was worded.

Stupid stupid. >.> *goes to send letter*
This is literally killing our freedom. As addicted to the internet as a I am, I wouldn't have much to do on the internet if this is passed.
