Internet Censorship

If you haven't already heard of SOPA, it's bill going through committee in the US that basically allows the US government to censor the internet, and makes website owners liable for what users post.

All of us need to protest.

The bill means the government can block what YOU view because one person posts something that infringes copyright. That means all video streaming sites are vulnerable, all forums, all pet sites that allow user content, all social networking sites, the moment someone notices a user posting copyrighted material.

It means that web site owners will be legally liable for what their users post, as opposed to now, where they are required to remove content upon being notified of the infringement. And I dunno about you but that sounds like death to user content everywhere.

The efforts of everyone is necessary in making sure Congress hears our outcry about this. To learn more, search for SOPA in an internet search engine and look at the recent news articles, or go to AmericanCensorship.org.

This won't pass considering it contradicts the constitution. They already tried to pull this bull by trying to make it so that people couldn't upload videos with any copyright material even if they have a completely justifiable use of said copyright material such as uploading them playing through a game. Of course that bill didn't pass and neither will this. Whoever is making these bills need to be kicked out of office or introduced to the internet because they clearly don't understand what they're doing.

Once again, I'm actually surprised this is even a bill. Considering it goes against what I understand of the Constitution. FREEDOM OF SPEECH and all. This is effectively going to kill the entire internet. Anywhere where a non admin can post can be taken down for "copyright infringement" if the corporations see it as such. Admins should not be responsible for what their users post. They cannot control it, and should not have the entire site put under risk of deletion/ blocking for something beyond their control. And this WILL affect the entire internet, because the impact the US has on it! Such a bill is insanity, and the death of the internet as we know it if it passes.

When I kept telling everyone that illegally downloading music and t.v. would have a consequence they thought I was paranoid. I'm somehow feel vindicated.
This is an awful idea because no website can be responsible for every user all of the time. There should be harsher penalties for those caught posting it, not for those caught accidentally hosting it.

whats really scary is the fine print- it means no more video-game walkthroughs or playthroughs, no posting videos of karaoke, no streaming of artwork (because the program used is copyright) and so on. This is all pretty terrible stuff and it should be stopped >:E
