November 11

Site Update

I've gotten a couple requests to recognize November 11 on Aywas, and I feel that Veteran's Day is something we do need to stop and think about.

Like General Tsee (#1816) said: "In Canada, Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November every year. It's a day that is set aside as a federal statutory holiday, with the purpose of remembering the soldiers who have fought, and still fight, in wars around the world; mostly our own, but in a greater sense, as well.

Every year, we lose more of our veterans from the world wars; I can't be sure, but I think I remember reading something saying that the last Canadian vet of WWI had passed on, sometime in the last couple of years. The sad truth is that we are losing these last links to our history, and I know that in many cases, there is not as much help and support available as there maybe should be for veterans. "

She's doing a charity auction for a Reve design, with the proceeds going toward a Veteran's fund. You should check it out if you haven't already:

Aside from that, I have a couple things to do also.

If you donate to any Veteran's fund during the 2010 year, show me your receipt by emailing a forward or scan to [email protected] and I'll send you the Red Poppy item:

This item doesn't do anything, but it's a token of our remembrance.

Aside from that, for any sales that go to Aywas on the duration of November 11, I will donate 10% (minimum $1) to a Veteran's fund of Aywas' choice on the 12th. GP Purchasers who purchase GP on the 11th will also receive the poppy item as part of their funds are going toward the charity purposes.

Never forget to honor the people who fell so you could live in freedom.

Active duty members, represent!

Thank you, Slash. This means a lot to all of us players who are also in the armed services. <3

Thanks for veterans' day Slash! :) Though I, personally, am having a little trouble with the date. Here in Holland nov 11th is St. Martin's Day, something completely different. Our veterans' day is the last saturday of June.
However, I am sure that veterans' day falls on another date for each country. And really, a date has to be picked. It's just a bit weird for me that it falls on a day of celebration as well.

I love how Aywas does these kind of things to make the whole community aware of certain days like this :)

For those whom have fought, for those whom lived, for those whom never left the battle field--we remember.

Thank you for the Vet. Day. <3

I was going to wait until tomorrow to buy any GP, since tomorrow is payday, but I'll be buying today instead. Just need to get home from work first.

Wonderful idea!
In Poland we celebrate today Polish Independence Day to commemorate the anniversary of regaining independence after 123 years, but I think we shall remember of all people from all countries who fought for freedom :)

It's very sweet Aywas is doing something for Remembrance Day. ^_^ Too bad I needed to go shopping this morning and nothing is open until noon... x_x Oh well, it's to respect war vets.

Veteran's day is a big thing in my family. My great-grandfather served in WWI. My grandfather served in WWII (he was actually at Normandy Beach on D-Day). My father was a lifelong Navy man. My brother in law is in the army and served almost two and a half years in Iraq. You're generosity is really awesome! Thank you!

Nov. 11th is still recognised here in the UK too, although probably not to the extent that it is in Canada and the US. The trouble is that it's one of those rememberance days that isn't stressed enough to the younger generations, who weren't there to remember it themselves. When I was in school (and yikes that was over 10yrs ago now) we were lucky if they got us to take part in the two-minute silence at 11am. It's in danger of becoming simply 'Poppy Day' with no one quite sure what they're buying poppies for... :P
A lot of good, brave, people have died or been injured for us and they deserve at least one day a year from us to honor that!

That is so kind! I'm not familiar with Remembrance day, but I remember Michael Collins signed the agreement thing to get 25 countries away from under British command. :3 I'll donate for GP as well once i get my money back. ^^ <3 -b
