November 11

Site Update

I've gotten a couple requests to recognize November 11 on Aywas, and I feel that Veteran's Day is something we do need to stop and think about.

Like General Tsee (#1816) said: "In Canada, Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November every year. It's a day that is set aside as a federal statutory holiday, with the purpose of remembering the soldiers who have fought, and still fight, in wars around the world; mostly our own, but in a greater sense, as well.

Every year, we lose more of our veterans from the world wars; I can't be sure, but I think I remember reading something saying that the last Canadian vet of WWI had passed on, sometime in the last couple of years. The sad truth is that we are losing these last links to our history, and I know that in many cases, there is not as much help and support available as there maybe should be for veterans. "

She's doing a charity auction for a Reve design, with the proceeds going toward a Veteran's fund. You should check it out if you haven't already:

Aside from that, I have a couple things to do also.

If you donate to any Veteran's fund during the 2010 year, show me your receipt by emailing a forward or scan to [email protected] and I'll send you the Red Poppy item:

This item doesn't do anything, but it's a token of our remembrance.

Aside from that, for any sales that go to Aywas on the duration of November 11, I will donate 10% (minimum $1) to a Veteran's fund of Aywas' choice on the 12th. GP Purchasers who purchase GP on the 11th will also receive the poppy item as part of their funds are going toward the charity purposes.

Never forget to honor the people who fell so you could live in freedom.

Thank you so much!!! for doing this. My grandfather is a veteran, so though I am not from Canada I believe this is a holiday everyone should commemorate.

There's a lot I don't believe in but i believe in the people that fight for us everyday and risk there lives so we can keep going on. I'll never forget them, I myself live right next to a grave yard and on the 11th i will be going to visit the vet's sector of it and giving my thanks to each that has pasted and set a prayer for those still fighting. Keep strong!

I'm really happy to hear people still remember the veterans from the world wars. November 11 is a holiday in Belgium (not sure about the rest of the world) - we use this day to remember the world wars, but also to draw attention to problems in the world today (In 1966, 11.11.11 was founded, an organization that collects money for things like world famine. The name comes from the date of the armistice of WWII in Belgium: November 11 at 11 o' clock)

So in short: kudos to you, Aywas, for remembering the veterans ;)

Thank you, Slash! Having most of my family serving in the military, this means a lot to me, and I'm sure many others. :)

As a member of a family with an extremely long military history, and being one who hopes to join some day, I can't be happier that Aywas is celebrating. I find myself liking Veteran's Day and Memorial Day better than some larger holidays, actually... and I'm that a website is honoring those who have served :]
