November 11

Site Update

I've gotten a couple requests to recognize November 11 on Aywas, and I feel that Veteran's Day is something we do need to stop and think about.

Like General Tsee (#1816) said: "In Canada, Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November every year. It's a day that is set aside as a federal statutory holiday, with the purpose of remembering the soldiers who have fought, and still fight, in wars around the world; mostly our own, but in a greater sense, as well.

Every year, we lose more of our veterans from the world wars; I can't be sure, but I think I remember reading something saying that the last Canadian vet of WWI had passed on, sometime in the last couple of years. The sad truth is that we are losing these last links to our history, and I know that in many cases, there is not as much help and support available as there maybe should be for veterans. "

She's doing a charity auction for a Reve design, with the proceeds going toward a Veteran's fund. You should check it out if you haven't already:

Aside from that, I have a couple things to do also.

If you donate to any Veteran's fund during the 2010 year, show me your receipt by emailing a forward or scan to [email protected] and I'll send you the Red Poppy item:

This item doesn't do anything, but it's a token of our remembrance.

Aside from that, for any sales that go to Aywas on the duration of November 11, I will donate 10% (minimum $1) to a Veteran's fund of Aywas' choice on the 12th. GP Purchasers who purchase GP on the 11th will also receive the poppy item as part of their funds are going toward the charity purposes.

Never forget to honor the people who fell so you could live in freedom.

My boyfriend, my brother, my uncle, my aunt, my cousin, my grandfather, my great grandfather, countless friends and other family members and eventually myself are serving, have served, or will be serving. It's always a very emotional day for my family like many other Aywas users 8D we're glad you've decided to take a moment to even just acknowledge those who've put their country before everything else and ultimately lost their lives for what they believe in. It's not a major day in the US like in other countries as we observe multiple days of remembrance for our troops, but it's still recognized and still holds meaning to those of us it effects. Freedom is not free. ~ -BJ

My father is a Veteran of the US Navy, so thanks. All the Vets and current Military out there should know that they can get a free sub at subway tomorrow. At least the one in Petersburg, VA, anyway. Dunno if it's all of them. Does donating to AmVets count for the poppy item? If my mom can dig up a receipt I'll send it in.

Oh that is a lovely idea Slash! :) I was going to wait a few days before splurging this month's paycheck, but I'll buy all the GP I need tomorrow now, so some of it will go to a worthy charity! ^_^

:( I would donate but I need to get permission from my dad and I know he'll say no... I want one because my grandfather was in World War 2 and he died last year from a heart attack..... :( I was close to him so this is making me teary-eyed...

Thank you Slash! I knew a man who fought in WW2 and while he wasn't family, he was as close as it gets! The reve is gorgeous.

My father and grandfather are prior service, and my husband is currently active duty and served overseas. Thank you for recognizing my heroes.

This makes me so happy. I know the nicest veteran and I see him every school day... I wish I could donate. < 3 Thank you for this, though. Thank you.
