November 11

Site Update

I've gotten a couple requests to recognize November 11 on Aywas, and I feel that Veteran's Day is something we do need to stop and think about.

Like General Tsee (#1816) said: "In Canada, Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November every year. It's a day that is set aside as a federal statutory holiday, with the purpose of remembering the soldiers who have fought, and still fight, in wars around the world; mostly our own, but in a greater sense, as well.

Every year, we lose more of our veterans from the world wars; I can't be sure, but I think I remember reading something saying that the last Canadian vet of WWI had passed on, sometime in the last couple of years. The sad truth is that we are losing these last links to our history, and I know that in many cases, there is not as much help and support available as there maybe should be for veterans. "

She's doing a charity auction for a Reve design, with the proceeds going toward a Veteran's fund. You should check it out if you haven't already:

Aside from that, I have a couple things to do also.

If you donate to any Veteran's fund during the 2010 year, show me your receipt by emailing a forward or scan to [email protected] and I'll send you the Red Poppy item:

This item doesn't do anything, but it's a token of our remembrance.

Aside from that, for any sales that go to Aywas on the duration of November 11, I will donate 10% (minimum $1) to a Veteran's fund of Aywas' choice on the 12th. GP Purchasers who purchase GP on the 11th will also receive the poppy item as part of their funds are going toward the charity purposes.

Never forget to honor the people who fell so you could live in freedom.

Thank you so much Slash! The Reve is beautiful. But might I suggest something for the vets of America as well?

I thought this was about the Vets of America but I just read it and yeah. I think it should just be for all the Vets. I'm pretty sure it's Veterans Day in the US too.

Just FYI, for the people wondering about honouring the vets of America/other nations; the winner of the auction will get to specify the nation to be honoured on the flag tail and the beret. This design is the one I made for myself, honouring Canada. :)

This is wonderful. My Grandpa served for around twenty years and met my Grandma because she wrote to him during the war (WWII). My dad was in Vietnam and my half-brother served in the Navy. <3

Thank you Slash. November 11th really is an important day in Canada, though I'm not sure how it's received elsewhere, so I can't really speak for anyone else. I think what's happening here is a tremendous token of remembrance and thanks, and I agree that the Reve posted here is truly stunning. A large and warm thank you to the Veterans and to the forces currently serving overseas. You are the reason why we have so much freedom today.
