He found a strange golden egg, with hinges clearly on one side, which, upon being opened, sends a burst of light from within, empowering him who looks into it with knowledge.
Kind of like a magic wikipedia.

An underground spring is what he discovers. At the bottom of the water there lies a glowing crystal. The crystal is evolving before his eyes and pulsating in a rhythm. It houses an enormous amount of power. Is it some ancient power source? A crystallization of one of Ay's ancient Gods? A new type of Aywa? Or a means to see that which cannot be seen?

Something like a whip chain ( I think they're called that. A chain or other type of tie to keep a single blade at one end and tie the other around your wrist. ) Good for long distance attacks with some other type of power. It's good for when you can't let your enemy get too close. XD That or a spy sword, because they just rock. XD I have one. lol

I'm thinking a golden shield or armor that matches with the sword. Or since he wants to use the sword against the sword I'm thinking a cloak of invisibility.

He found the egg of some demon god and planned on keeping it, caring for it, and hatching it, then testing his Earthslayer sword on it, but after caring for it... could he still manage to try he sword out on it? DUN DUN DUUUUUN
