He finds a mystical ball of energy that can destroy most anything, and it can also grant wishes. Oh! And it can be used as a portal between this world, and the Heaven and Hell dimensions.

Noone knows who created the sword, but it has appeared several times in history and always in times of turmoil. It's unknown whether the turmoil draws the sword, or if the sword creates it.
Created before souls had bodies, the sword doesn't just cut flesh - it cuts a target's essence. In Spenser's hands it cut the earth, but it craves more than that.
Legend says that during a war between good and evil, two champions battled. The sword's wielder used it to trap his enemy's soul, but couldn't control its power and was trapped too.
Spenser found one of the souls that was trapped in the sword, freed when he cut the earth with it. It's unknown which soul or which side he fought on.
In addition to the sword's power and the soul's identity, there is another thing to consider: what does a soulsword do when wielded by a ghost?
