I completely agree with ariaalina (#39694). It isn't about how many in general, but about how many in a certain amount of time.

Anything more than 1 breeding every 2-3 months is overbreeding to me. Though if someone breeds the pet 3 times the second they get it and nothing else for a year that isn't overbreeding. So I guess, anything more than 5 breedings in a year.

Depends on if they are selling babies. It's only an overbreeding issue if they are selling babies from the litters. IMHO. 5 litters of selling pups is the limit. No limit if never selling.

Last option- I think 10 is personally a good point to stop. Though a good guide would probably be the number of slots sold for the parent pets (the ones with the rules). If they only sell 2 slots, breeding anything over 2 yourself is probably more breedings than the parents owner wanted

Huh. I've never really thought about it. Overbreeding doesn't bother me personally; it's not like it's a real animal that's being abused. I generally like seeing my customs' edits in other people's lair. Though I wish there was an easier way to keep track of lineages. One of my customs has grandbabies! I only found out yesterday because I clicked on one of his kids. A notification would've been neat, but probably unrealistic.

Personally. I don't think it's the overbreeding that is the problem. It's the whole 'breeding for profit' that is the problem. People don't want their edits bred just to be sold.

I, for one, am an avid breeder. It's the main reason I"m on this site. I also don't breed out of lair often because I think the overbreeding [and rules in general] that some people put on their customs is[/are] ridiculous.

I also agree with what Kita said. How if it isn't clearly defined in the rules that the user created, then it shouldn't to be enforced. Vague rules = no rules, really.

But i'm messed and probably wrong on everything and whatever. //shrugs.

Good luck finding a ruling that everyone will be happy with.

I think the owner sets what they think is overbreeding which is like saying I don't want these edits over breed so babies with these edits can only be breed x times.
I personally feel overbreeding is more a timed thing like ariaalina says.

I'm agreeing with ariaalina and pheobe, it depends on how many breedings in a time period.

I picked 3, but personally if I had an no over breeding rule, I look more at time passed more then number of times.
If someone breeds, say once or twice a year only. I see that as "not over-breeding". They're casually breeding here and there and not pumping 10+ out a year.

Since pets can't "Age or die" I try to give leway that someone isn't going to want to buy a pet form me, breed it twice and never be able to breed again.

As long as they space them out, I really don't care how "many times" as long as it's not like 5 a year or whatever.

5 breedings is my cap for breeding pets outside my lair (letting other people breed my pets), because that's my level for keeping track.
