Site Update
In case you are wondering why the site seems to die every week for eight or ten hours, we're in a very... interesting, to say the least, predicament. Our server is actually devastatingly out of space, so it has moments weekly where it crashes and won't come back online.
I have a new server ordered with 2 TB of space (and actually double the RAM, which I'm interested to see how it handles the site's load) but we're trying to figure out how to migrate the data. You see, when you have a site this large, data migration can take 2-3 days due to the sheer amount of it. Yet, even if you let it migrate data in the background of the old server site running, new data is constantly being added (by the actions all of you take onsite, making pets, exploring, new accounts being registered, forum posts etc.), which means that new data doesn't get copied over to the new server as it's created on the old server.
So we have a fun situation where we're trying to figure out how to minimize the data loss in moving. It's obvious that we can't shut the site down for three or four days to migrate the data; that would just suck for all of us.
I have an idea but we'll just have to see how it pans out. It seems like what takes up the most space are custom images. The goal is to get moved to the new server by next week though.
Well, anyway, that's your little update. This situation is annoying for Yasu and I, believe me...

i assume unlike many oter users.. i dont mind aywas going off for a few days to move everything, i mean it would far more annoying and less enjoyable for me to lose any data or be constantly frustrated with the site for days.

I'd rather not lose anything myself and would rather have the downtime for a few days compared to several days worth of work go down the drain. Just my thoughts though.

I guess I wouldn't mind, though if the site is to go down, a little forewarning would be appreciated, and not just the couple of hours we get normally. I can't be on at 3am whenever these notices are usually posted that the site is going to be down for ages in the next three hours, and pretty much always miss them. I need to get psds and things to work on whilst down time occurs, else I'll miss my deadlines xP

Well, it doessssn't JUST die weekly, it also dies near-nightly. xD I think you should hold a vote, tbh - I wouldn't mind having the site closed down for a couple days if it means that this doesn't happen. Or just close custom and breeding queues for the time being - and only really have the forums open...IDK.

I'm excited about a new server. 8D I would be totally fine with the site being down a few days for this.

If all these site crashes coming to an end means the site has to be down for a few days, I would be perfectly fine with this.

I rather the site go down then loose data. Data is pets and items and money. down time sucks but is better then data loss. I mean if your idea does not work. I'l be bored to tears if the sites down, but eh...
hey if you do have to turn the site down, the 7th is a GREAT day to start/hinthint/ I'll be at my moms for shopping and AVENGERS for a couple days or so.

The only *huge* (it's not that huge) thing that saddens me, if the site does go down a couple days, is if the Xero streaks break... mine is so high~ ; ^ ; I guess I can live without nudging him for a few days, though; for the greater good!

I would take the 3 to 4 days of it being down if it made things faster, easier and with less problems. It would suck but, I'd take the whole things turned out better than risk loosing anything D:. I can SO sympathize my hard drive has been griping at me, I seem to be entirely out of space xD!
