Site Update
We are announcing two major changes, so buckle up for a long news post!
First up is a change made based on a user suggestion and expanded on by staff!
The great Artist Ticket (and Pen) alignment!
Originally, we had several spin-off versions of the Artist Ticket that made sense at the time, given the number of artists on the team and how the administration wanted the coins to work. Since then, things have changed! Our teams are smaller, and we've made adjustments to bring the tickets more in line with their USD variants.
We've also moved some rules that were previously attached to coins over to the tickets themselves, helping return value to those items, and added some bonus payouts as a thank-you to our artists for being valued members of the team!
All newly added or increased bonus payouts are retroactive.
All other changes apply to breedings submitted on or after 9/22/2026. For older breedings, you may opt into the new rules if you prefer them; if you do, please note this clearly on your breeding for clarity. Thank you!
Now for the changes!
Coin Changes:
Sketch Breeding Coin
Removed the ability to exclude 2 artists you did not want; this has been moved to the Sketch Artist Ticket.
Holiday Mistletoe
All add-ons allowed by LBC have been added to Mistletoe, along with the ability to upload predictions. Holiday Mistletoe has always been meant to mimic LBC, so this was a long-needed update!
Artist Ticket
Added to all coins it was missing from except Derp. (Our Derp artists do not wish to be named at this time, sorry!)
Scribble Artist Ticket
Changed to: Choose 2 artists you would like for your Scribble Breeding Coin, or 1 artist you would not like.
(Down from choosing 3.)
Sketch Artist Ticket
Changed to: Choose 1 or 2 artists you want, or exclude 1 or 2 artists you do not want.
Added: 5 GP Bonus Payout
Price increased in the BP Shop to keep it from paying out more than it costs.
(Down from choosing 3, with the exclude option added.)
Speedy Breeding Ticket
This was already allowed on more coins than its description stated. The description has been updated, and it has now been added to all coins except Derp as well.
Greater Painted Pen
Payout Bonus: Changed from USD to GP.
(Previously paid out 10 USD.)
Painted Pen
Changed to: Choose 2 artists you want, or 2 artists you want to exclude.
Added: 6 GP Bonus Payout
All Artist Ticket and Painted Pen items should now include the following disclaimer:
Breeding will remain unassigned if the artist goes on break, hiatus, or quits.
Note:
Staff is actively working on getting the Breeding Team Artists KB updated to help users keep their tickets up to date and avoid breedings sitting unassigned.
Keep an eye on that KB for updates, and please keep your tickets as up to date as you can to avoid your breeding not being assigned when it reaches the top of the queue.
Pet and Item Auctions
Next up is the follow-up to the Auctions poll we had!
A 15-minute automatic Snipe Guard has been added to Admin Auctions, User Item Auctions, and Pet Auctions.
We are starting with this because it is the smallest, most stable change we can make to the old site code. We are working on more flexible options, such as opting in or out and more, as part of the recode, where we have more stability to work with these kinds of changes.
What is a Snipe Guard?
If a successful bid is placed while there are 15 minutes or less remaining, the auction's ending time is moved to 15 minutes from the time of that bid. This gives other bidders a chance to respond instead of an auction being decided by a bid placed in its final few seconds.
Why 15 Minutes?
The poll was very divided; there was not one clear set time that was overwhelmingly favored. While one option did "win," we also factored in the spread of the other times selected to see whether the overall preference leaned toward a shorter or longer window.
Ultimately, 15 minutes was picked for several reasons, but one of the biggest is that outside of large sales like Black Friday or Mayday, users aren't necessarily refreshing the site over and over to check auctions. A longer window gives users a better chance to see and counter a last-minute bid.
Staff will monitor how this works in practice, and the time can always be adjusted as needed per feature. If 15 minutes proves too long for large sales, such as Black Friday or Mayday, we can adjust the Snipe Guard specifically for Admin Auctions. Any such change will be announced beforehand.
A quick note about Snipe Guard:
Back-and-forth bidding is a normal and expected part of auctions, including during the Snipe Guard window. There is no limit on how many times you may legitimately bid against another user, and you do not need to worry that simply bidding frequently will be treated as abuse.
We don't expect this to be an issue, but as a just-in-case rule, intentionally misusing Snipe Guard solely to keep an auction open or another user's funds tied up is not allowed. Any concerns would be reviewed individually and in context; normal competitive bidding is not what this rule is intended to address.
But don't Big Sales happen in User Item Auctions?
They no longer will! Part of this update involved shaking off the dust and fixing the old Admin Auction code, and admins are now able to use Admin Auctions as intended.
With that covered, there are also a few other quality-of-life updates that were made!
Pet Auctions: Auction Pet now allows you to search for the pet you want to auction; you no longer have to go to the pet's page to find it or face a dropdown of doom.
Item Auctions: Create Auction now also allows you to search for an item to narrow down and select it from the dropdown; again, a super-full inventory will no longer plague you with a dropdown of doom.
(This works slightly differently from the Pet Auction search due to our goal of making the least invasive patches possible to the old code.)
All Auctions: Now have a pop-up confirmation screen that gives you a summary of what you are auctioning, the starting bid, currency type, minimum bid increase, and auction length. You then have a chance to cancel and go back to make changes, or confirm and submit the auction.
All Auctions: While the auction is within the 15-minute Snipe Guard window, the current highest bidder cannot increase their own bid. You must wait until another user outbids you before bidding again. Outside of the Snipe Guard window, the highest bidder may still increase their bid normally.
All User Auctions (Pet and Item): You can no longer bid on your own auction. Pet Auctions previously allowed this as a way to correct an incorrectly entered starting bid, while Item Auctions already prevented it. Now that all auctions include a confirmation screen where you can review your information before submitting, that exception is no longer necessary.
We are hosting some Admin GP and BP Auctions!
They will run for roughly a week and can be bid on here!

Lunar Meteor 2026, Part 2

The Lunar Meteor Seasonal Shop is now open! There is an assortment of new pets for you to add to your collection, along with some items, fauna, and clothing from previous years! The Seasonal Shop will remain open until 11:59 PM AST on October 3rd, so be sure to make any and all purchases before then!
As a reminder, you have a little over 24 hours until the other Lunar Meteor festivities come to a close! The adventure area, raffles, and Wish Upon a Star threads will remain open until 11:59 PM AST on September 20th.
Additionally, the submission threads for the Ghoulish Gala are now open in the Events forum! Please keep in mind that if you are submitting a pet, the site pet thread is where the design will be available to everyone. The Cauldron thread is for designs that will be given out as a custom pet during the event, which means only one person will obtain that design. The deadline to submit your entries is 11:59 PM AST on October 18th!
As a reminder, we are currently accepting submissions for the Black Friday Exotic Sale! If you are interested in creating a set, you can review the rules for submitting here. All sets must be completed and turned in to Mayday Marie (#11) by 11:59 PM AST on November 6th!
It's also time to give away four free customs designed during May under the theme of Stickers!

Should Auctions Have a Snipe Guard?

Today's update brings you two polls (see the post below for the second) centered around Pet and Item Auctions!
Staff is wondering if users would like a snipe guard on pet and item Auctions. While we wait on the recode, the change would likely be static (just a set timeframe), but the ideal long term goal would be to make adding one an option toggle (so the auctioneer can opt in or out) and allow you to pick from common timeframes (or set a custom timeframe). If we add it as optional, it would be listed as part of the auction bid page, whether there is a snipe guard or not.
However, Staff also recognizes this would be a large change, since many users enjoy being able to snipe auctions to save currency and wait and time things appropriately.
A change like this would allow a more relaxed auction experience because you would not have to wait around and try to snipe and hope someone else isn't bidding more than you, or you forget when the auction you want to snipe is going to end, and you don't get to bid on it.
This change would benefit and encourage users to use Auctions more than forum posts, trade posts, or flat sales (in shops). Some users don't know what they want for items and don't want to manage a forum post, and being able to do an open auction and let the market dictate the sale is more favorable.
This change would also bring the feature more in line with how auctions typically work on many other sites now, and be more in line with what a new user might expect.
It would also come with a slight facelift to add the Knowledge Base link about Auctions with the new terms for transparency.
That said, the question is: is this something you want to see updated? Please also see the second poll (post below this) for what you would consider an ideal timeframe for a snipe gaurd/extention.

Lunar Meteor 2026, Part 1
Events
The sky had shifted colors, the amount of shooting stars has increased... no, it's not the apocalypse - the Lunar Meteor has arrived!
Be careful though - some creatures are more friendly than others!
The Lunar Meteor will be shooting back off into space after 11:59 PM AST on September 20th, so be sure to collect everything that you would like to before then!
Additionally, the Museum Collection is up and ready for you to turn items in to! For those of you who weren't here last year, you can find the needed items while adventuring in the Lunar Meteor. When you have one of items, you can go to your inventory, click on the item, and hit "Move to Collections" from the menu. The prize for completing the collection is once again 1 SP and the Star Ticket, which can be used in the following raffles:
The Glittering Potion can change your pet into your choice of any site pet, and it has three charges! The Metallic Starlight Bottle allows you to create a metal Lunaris custom! The Jar of Sparkles has four charges and will turn your pet into a Lunaris from Lunaris Day 2012! The Bottle of Vampire Glitter allows you to create an up to 50% edited, sparkledog-esque custom of an Uncommon or Token species!

Lunar Meteor & Black Friday

Due to a low amount of submissions, the deadline for the Lunar Meteor threads will be extended to 11:59 PM AST on August 21st. If you plan to submit any pets, items, or clothing items for the event, please be sure to do so before the end of this deadline! You can find the submission threads in the Event forum.
It's almost that time of year again - the Black Friday Sale! This year, the sale will run November 13th through November 17th. While we'll have more information for you in regards to the actual sale when it's not so far away, here's some crucial information for those who would like to participate by creating sets:
You may create a set from any of the Exotic Genera (Teo, Faux, Snoodle, or Oët). A set is 5 custom pets with identical edits, all colored uniquely. If your set is accepted, you are also permitted 1 semi-unique that you can turn in at that time or at a later date. All applications must be PM'd to Mayday Marie (#11) with the following subject line: Black Friday 2026 - [email protected] - please replace the e-mail with your PayPal address. You must PM Mayday Marie (#11) with a sketch for for approval! Your sketches must be either 200px or 400px, and they should not be a screenshot of your canvas. If you send Marie a finished product without doing this first, we do not have to accept it. If you make more sets than the ones we approve you to do, we do not have to accept them. You must also send Mayday Marie (#11) examples of your shading and coloring - please embed them as an image that does not exceed 600px and not a link. If you send more than 5 examples, you may be asked to choose which ones you feel best represent your current work. Users may only submit 3 sketches at a time. If more are submitted you will be asked to choose 3 of them to be assessed. Additional sketches will not be assessed until accepted sketches are submitted as complete sets. There will be no exceptions. All sets should be between 50% - 75%. If your set is spectacular, we will accept less edits. We are allowing very few silvers! We will not be accepting a dozen Teos that only have the tails left. All PSDs must be breedable! This means separated edits, shading, highlights, coloring, etc. We will not accept pets that are unbreedable, and we will be checking PSDs. All sets must be completed and turned in to Mayday Marie (#11) by 11:59 PM AST on November 6th!
The payment options are as follows:
$50 paid after Black Friday is over; you must sell at least one coloration of your set on Day 1 or Day 2 to be able to claim this option! 100 GP + 5 SP paid once the set is finished. No base pay, however you are granted a 75% unique of any of the exotic genera creatable this Black Friday. (You are welcome to sell this slot as well, however you must do part of the artwork for it.) 1 Black Friday Egg for the $50 Day. If you do two sets, then you can trade both payments in for 1 Black Friday Egg for the first day!The sell out bonus will work the same as it has been: should your set sell out on day 1 (November 13th) you get a bonus of $75, day 2 (November 14th) is $50 and day 3 (November 15th) is $25.

Ghoulish Gala - Trick or Treat Vote

Hello!
I just wanted to touch base with everyone about this year's Ghoulish Gala!
As some of you may have noticed last year, I struggled quite a bit to get the old Trick or Treat system up and running. This was largely due to suddenly finding myself as the site's coder (as outlined in a later news post). At the time, I was trying to untangle years of old code and get it working without the understanding of the site's structure that I have now. That meant I was debugging, fixing, and overhauling the system on the fly just to get the event functional.
It definitely wasn't the ideal way to approach things, but my priority was making sure everyone still had a event to enjoy. In the process, I ended up rebuilding much of the Trick or Treat system behind the scenes while keeping the overall concept and feel of the event the same.
Now that things have settled down, I have a much better understanding of how the site works and is structured. That leaves me with a choice for this year's event, and rather than decide on my own, I'd like your input.
I still have the original Trick or Treat system, and with what I've learned over the past year, I could restore it to work much as it did before.
At the same time, I know the newer system introduced several improvements that many users enjoyed.
Rather than assume which version everyone prefers, I'd like to ask now while there's still plenty of time before October. That gives me enough time to repair, polish, and test whichever direction the community would like to see, instead of trying to make major changes at the last minute.
So, what would you like to see this year?
