Holiday Breeding Coin Changes & Predict Caps

Site Update

This newspost is going to be a potentially upsetting one to some people, but please bear with as I explain some changes we are making to Holiday Breeding Coins.

As a result of raising the pay for contract breeding artists and giving them fairer wages for their work, a problem began with edited coins. Holiday Breeding Coins were a great way to breed Silver pets and other genuses without getting a hybrid, and for a cheaper price.

However, the fact that Holiday Breeding Coins typically produce two offspring regularly (instead of the chance of 1 or 2 via gold Breeding Coins) means that the queue, now quite large, competes with the regular Breeding Coin queue and clogs up artist time. This creates long wait times for offspring from both coins in the end. Because of the fact that they are also cheaper than gold Breeding Coins, the cost effectiveness of doing two offspring and paying out the same is not sustainable. We also do not want to lower artist pay for Holiday Coin artists either, since that also isn't fair.

So as of today, the Holiday Breeding Coin will only produce one offspring by the artist team. As a compromise, however, if the breeding has common/uncommon species parents, you are welcome to submit a second offspring via predict if you choose. This is retroactive and will affect all current breedings in queue that have not yet been assigned to an artist. Up until this newspost date you will also be allowed, for said retroactive breedings, to submit ONE predict for rare parent HBC breedings and TWO predicts for common/uncommon HBC breedings. Married pairs in this retroactive period can receive 2 predicts for rare parents, and 3 predicts for common/uncommon.

From tomorrow onward, however, any new breedings will get one artist baby for rares, and one artist baby+one predict baby for common/uncommon. Married pairs will get one artist baby + one predict for rares, and one artist baby + two predicts for common/uncommon.

I will give the Holiday queue a week as of tomorrow, May 10th, a time period that, if you wish to request a refund of your breeding due to the change, you will be welcome to ask me to do so personally. Remember that you can easily flag a breeding as having predicts to take it out of the assignment queue if you wish to put predicts without risk of having it assigned.

This is an inconvenience, I know, but the fact of the matter is we wish to be able to keep fair pay for the artists involved while also keeping ahead financially. We will have a dedicated Holiday Coin artist for a few months to see how this helps us as well, and ensure that the queue moves at a steady pace.

If you have any questions or other concerns regarding this, please don't hesitate to ask.

ADDENDUM FOR PREDICT CAPS

BC predict caps have been raised to 15 GP per one predict. HBC predicts are 25 GP per one predict.

For the tl;dr crowd:

- GP Predict cap for HBC has been raised to 25, as requested.
- Rare breeders with HBC can add an extra predict for free. Uncommon/Common breeders can add two extra predicts for free, meaning you get an extra baby that you expected with HBC. This is good for all breedings submitted before this news post.
- A new USD item will be added for $20 that will fund another 30% edited baby in an HBC breeding. Yes, it will work for rares too. It will also allow you to select which parent species you want in common/uncommon breedings.

This should not have been retroactive. I have an HBC about to be assigned and I was extremely excited for it, then went out of my way to get the PSDs and submit it, along with the add-ons. I'm pretty peeved.

As a user of Aywas who is NOT involved with the HBC at all, and who may purchase one in the future: I'm in agreement that this is the fairest solution! Artists should not have to make extra babies for the same pay, and Aywas cannot logically or reasonably raise the pay-roll too much higher without going under, so I think this was a brilliant decision, and I'm all aboard. I'm on the MDT team, so I know that this wasn't an easy decision to make when you have artists and users to consider, but it's good to know you approached this without bias. I feel the need to thank you for taking everyone's considerations to heart. It couldn't have been easy!

So the new official thing forever more is one definite offspring with or without predict and an additional predict-only offspring, if I'm following this right? What if someone submits a predict and only wanted that, not another artist pet, as people have always sometimes done for one-offspring coins? Sounds unlikely but some people have 'only breed a certain number of babies' things on their pets so it could come up.

Think of it this way: HBC pays out more in USD than it brings in when it yields two offspring. That cannot be the case -- we just got ourselves out of a financial problem and it's not good to ignore other ones. We have two choices. Financially risk ourselves again to pay out a queue that brought in less than it pays artists, or pay the artists who work on HBC less than the other BC artists. I don't know about you, but if I were an artist, I would not want to work on a job that has the same effort and get paid less as another BC job.

I like this. I have an HBC in possession now, and with how much work that goes into making these babies I think we will get more quality edits when they are only focusing on making one spectacular baby!!

I'm completely fine with this. Unless I was splitting a breeding I never submitted HBCs except to ensure that I only got one back. I'm not crazy about multiples.

J.A.K. (#15) so this means any breedings in que have a chance to add a predict for the second pet, but otherwise well no offense are getting a bit um gyped...Shouldn't this have at least left pets currently in que without the rule change so suddenly? Finding the gp AND an artist in only a week is not much time, and the coins won't hold their same value if refunded.=( I've been waiting to put a breeding specifically in since 2013, very sad=( and I don't mean that are the artist shouldn't get their fair pay, but I do think breedings in que should be left as is...

I'm pretty upset with this being retroactive.... I had several breedings that were shared with other users (that were from the end of December so they should have been assigned soonish). This completely messes up the agreements that were made when we split the breeding. I understand why it's a change that needed to be made but I really think it should have been implemented in some other way.

I.... honestly do not feel this should be retroactive. People have PAID to get two babies. In fees or for the coin itself. And those people are out money now if they are unable to make predicts. Or they have to spend even MORE money to commission someone to make them.

I do not even have any of these in que and I can see how much this seems to short a lot of people. Who paid with the knowledge of getting two babies made...... Future stuff sure. I see why that is smart. but... yeah.
