Site Update

Today has been declared Help-a-Pet Day!
Brought to you by Chianya (#12264) and the power of a Slashbot.

This time of year can be especially rough for animals, particularly in areas experiencing harsh winter climates.
Many animals find themselves as unwanted pets from the holidays, are strays seeking warmth and food, or are in a shelter overrun with other pets looking for a forever home. Therefore, Chianya is bringing a week-long event to Aywas in order to help spotlight the cause and support animals in need!

Donation Drive
Aywas is sponsoring a donation drive to help the efforts of organizations that rescue and care for any and all animals. As a thank you for your generosity to an animal-focused shelter/charity of your choice, we have set up the following tiers according to Chianya's specifications:

The Pawprint Dog Bed is a custom creator that will enable you to upload your very own Shelter Dog silver pet with up to 30% edits. Click the image to download the PSD.
As this pet is a donation reward, these lines cannot be created with SCCs, Silver Potions, etc.

* Donation tiers are listed in USD amounts, but you may donate in another currency as long as it is at least the USD equivalent amount.

How to Donate
1. Choose a shelter or animal charity of your choice. Any organization that helps, cares for, or rescues animals from cats and dogs to exotic pets and even wildlife is acceptable. We are very flexible on this!

2. Check to see if the organization has a minimum donation amount.

3. Donate the amount of your choice.

4. Send a receipt or proof of donation to me at [email protected]. Please include your ID number and ensure I can see the amount and organization, but feel free to block out any personal details. A screenshot of your webpage receipt or forwarding me the receipt the shelter/charity e-mails you would suffice!

5. Receive your rewards! :3

If you currently volunteer at a shelter/animal charity:
Aywas would like to extend our gratitude to you by offering you the full set of rewards above.
Simply email me at [email protected] with some sort of proof of your volunteer status and I'll get you taken care of! c: Please be sure to include your ID.

If you are not in a position to donate but still want to show your support for the cause, we have filled the BP Shop with animal-related goodies!

You will find 11 pets to collect (including the Kodama and the three pets above), along with some HA wearables.

Each box of the six above contains one corresponding shirt that says "I <3 Dogs," "I <3 Cats," "I <3 Animals," etc. and each is a different color and style. You can see how all of them look through the Preview Wardrobe option!

We also have four "wearable" accessories that fit in the bottom right corner of your HA box to add some scenery! You can also check these out with the Preview Wardrobe option.

The drive will be running until January 25th at 11:59 p.m., so all donations need to be made by this time, as well as all goodies snagged from the shop!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact myself or Chianya (#12264).

We would also love to hear about your shelter/animal charity experiences, and if you have a suggestion for one to support, you are welcome to share it in the comments below.

As a site full of animal lovers, Aywas is very excited to be able to host a drive like this. <3
Thank you for your support!

Both my cat and my dog are from our local dog & cat shelters, and I will be volunteering with scouts!
I hopefully will be volunteering at the dog shelter because they recently had 50+ chihuahuas come in from an elderly couple!

About Homeless Animals in America

Two unaltered cats and all their descendants can theoretically number 420,000 in just seven years.
Two unaltered dogs and all their descendants can theoretically number 67,000 in just six years.
No homes for littermates is one of the top ten reasons people relinquish their cats and dogs to shelters.
The top reason both cat guardians and dog guardians give for not having their pets altered is that they simply have not bothered to do it yet.
Twenty percent of cat guardians think their cats are too young to be altered, and 18% say they are not able to afford spay/neuter surgery.
Twenty-one percent of dog guardians want to breed their dogs, and 13% think their dogs are too young to be altered.
An estimated 5 million cats and dogs are killed in shelters each year.Thats one about every six and one half seconds.
Tens of millions of stray and feral cats struggle to survive on their own outdoors. Although some are altered and live in managed colonies, most are not altered and receive no health care. They reproduce at will and many suffer from illness or injury before dying.
Over half (56%) of dog guardians and nearly two-thirds (63%) of cat guardians rank pet overpopulation as the most important pet issue.
In a study of relinquishment of cats and dogs in 12 U.S. animal shelters, 30% of the surrendered dogs were purebreds.
The same study indicated that 55% of the surrendered dogs and 47% of the surrendered cats were unaltered.
It costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated $2 billion each year to round up, house, kill, and dispose of homeless animals.
Over 56% of dogs and puppies entering animal shelters are killed, based on reports from over 1,055 shelters across America.
Approximately 71% of cats and kittens entering animal shelters are killed, based on reports from 1,055 shelters across America.
