Transgender Day of Remembrance

Site Update

Today is the 13th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, founded to remember, honor and memorialize those who have been victims of transgender hatred, prejudice and violence. Essentially, these people were killed for simply trying to express and enjoy who they truly were. These deaths are not the result of a tragic accident or evil or something similarly blameless--they are the result of actions made by people turning against one another.

We live in an age where violence is disturbingly unsurprising, but that doesn't mean we should complacently accept it, forget the grim realities surrounding us, or think that someone else is going to stand up for you and the things you believe in. Awareness is instrumental in making a difference, so I urge you to please take a few moments and read about the day of remembrance and look over some of those who have fallen to hate-filled homicide. It was illuminating for me, so I hope you'll be affected in some way too.

Actions motivated by hatred aren't okay, and we must never forget that, nor the victims that have fallen to such prejudice.

People ask me why I speak out for these types of things, when I am not trans or even gay. "Somebody's gotta care," I tell them.

Thank you for caring enough to post this. I read all thorough the victims and I am saddened to the core, but I hope they can all rest in peace, justice served or not~

Thank you for posting this, because I have a few Transgendered friends, and they didn't know about this. It is sad, how some humans cannot accept difference. But, thankfully there are people who do and places to go for support. Thank you for making this place one of them.

Don't you think this topic is a little controversial?

i came back to read the comments today. the day you had posted this, i was shocked to find that all of the comments were supportive. not believing that there were still people with hearts in the world, i came back and checked again today.

not one person posted a negative response. in 8 pages of comments.
this to me proves that there is hope.

I don't see how a topic basically saying 'people are people, hate crimes are bad, and remember the unjustly murdered' is controversial, Moonlight.

Gotta agree with Vlad here. Even if you find transgender offensive or controversial, its just wrong [Not to mention unlawful] to discriminate against or even kill a person for how they are or what they believe in. I don't care what their views are.
