It's the 5th anniversary of Steve Irwin's death. It's strange how it's already been five years since he died... I still watch his show on Animal Planet, and he had always shown reptiles in a positive light, something we still need more of in the media.
In his memory I released some more snake-related Solis into Explore:
Did Steve Irwin inspire you?

I had a really early class that morning, and I remember hearing about it at breakfast. It was a shock; the entire campus seemed saddened by it once the word spread.
He is sorely missed.

Even in America, he did touch a few lives. Mine being one of them. Actually because of him I got over a my fear of Snakes and find them and other reptiles fascinating.

I adored watching him as a child and it is unbelievable that it has been 5 years. It feels like it was yesterday. :c I sill watch re-runs of his show and I will never forget the crocodile hunter.

I've actually never watched Steve Irwin... but I remember his death quite well. It was a very sad event. I love reptiles as well as cats and I would have loved to meet him in person.

Its a shock to think its been that long. I swear it feels like just yesterday I was sitting on the living room floor holding my little girl while she cried over the news of his death. She still has a poster of him in her room - and I think she still has the DVD of the tribute they did for him. She was always afraid for snakes and crocs as a toddler - Steve showed her that they weren't the monsters she thought they were. For that alone, I will be forever grateful to him.

It's amazing that five years have passed. As far back as I can remember, I watched his show. As a small lad, I was completely enamoured by the man and his work. He taught me not to fear such animals as snakes, crocodiles, alligators, komodo dragons, and oh gosh the list goes on! He taught me how to respect animals and still enjoy their company. He inspired me to spread such education to the people I've met over the years, and I've even helped a few people overcome their fear of such animals through the knowledge he passed on through his programme. Thank you for putting this event forth. It feels nice to read over these comments and feel like we're all a bit connected. ~Chris
