Art Gallery Notice

Site Update

As we near Sunday (when the first six Art Gallery winning submissions will be selected and displayed), I find myself getting a bit concerned with the entries. To be frank, like 90% of them aren't following the rules. An entry that does not follow the rules will not win a prize, regardless of how good the entry is.

Common errors

- Not putting username and ID on the image

- the image not being Aywas related (seriously? Why do people keep uploading seemingly random images?)

- the work having a copyright notice on it (this wasn't explained in the Art Gallery, but it is in the TOS - everything you submit to us that is Aywas-related becomes our property, so you cannot have your copyright on an Aywas image)

Don't forget - the deadline for this is 11:59 PM on SATURDAY, as the six winners will be announced on Sunday. Don't be late, there is SP and a rare item on the line!

(PS: Spensey-poo is going to be rapid-fire stocking the plush shop at 10:00 PM)

The copyright rules are very legitimate; even Facebook and blog pages have the same procedure. You post a picture or anything on there, they technically own it. It is not to screw users over, it is to protect the company. It just means if the page quotes you or uses your image in a news post or something they won't get sued like crazy. Websites generally need to own the content that is hosted on them. Besides, the art contest requests Aywas related content; which belongs to Aywas anyways. It is not like the artists could make a profit off it... and the artists still get credit for their work. If there is still a problem... then be prepared to face a very dangerous digital world and read the fine print more carefully on almost every page out there.

Just a question; The rule says 'to have no copyright notice on them'.
On my pictures there's always an 'Art by Rekala' text.. Although this states that the art was made BY me.. not that it BELONGS to me.. Can I still submit it?

" the work having a copyright notice on it (this wasn't explained in the Art Gallery, but it is in the TOS - everything you submit to us that is Aywas-related becomes our property, so you cannot have your copyright on an Aywas image)"

Really? Good thing I've never been interested in drawing anything Aywas-related, then. I'd really like to see some kind of legal documentation that says that you're allowed to do that, Slash. It's FANART. You don't see the creators of most other stuff, or even other pet websites, doing this. What's to stop you from using someone's art to market the site, in this instance? The poor artist would never see a dime from it, I bet.

Whatever an artist makes belongs to them unless they CHOOSE to give away the rights. Don't try to say that submitting art to the site counts as consent; I'm betting most people here didn't know this fact until you mentioned it. Almost no one bothers to read terms of service.

Gotta say, good thing I don't generally draw fan art. The whole "all your base are belong to us" type of thing... Never been a huge fan.

I wake up to find that I missed a restock for the plushies :( Do you think you can do a restock when UK users would be awake for it? This sucks :(

I probably would submit but I don't like the how aywas just owns our artwork without receiving anything for it.
