Breeding Subspecies

Pets

So, Frey and I were talking and came up with an idea: what if, with a very small percentage chance, an LBC breeding could result in a baby with an alternate lineart!

So the talk of subspecies has returned, but these are breeding mutations -- or babies that result in an alternate lineart due to the small percentage being achieved. The percentage would be 1% - 5% depending on the species.

Breeding subspecies would have these rules:
- They can only breed to other pets of that same lineart style (LBC)
- Customs would currently not be currently available of the breeding linearts, but possibly in the future. They're rare breeding occurrences!
- Users have the ability to select "no breeding subspecies" while initiating a breeding if they do not want their breeding to have a chance of resulting in a subspecies

What exactly is a subspecies?
A subspecies is a type of genus, like a melo, except that it has a different pose and looks slightly different from the original pet. For example, a subspecies of melo could be a fire melo, or a melo that's flaming from the feet and ears but is in a more action pose.

A breeding subspecies would take on the colors/edits of its parents directly onto the subspecies base, like normal breeding. So, if you bred a horned black melo with a winged red devil melo, you could presumably get a flaming subspecies melo that's black and red with wings and horns :D

Do you have subspecies ideas?
You can submit them here!

So what do you think of the idea of breeding subspecies? Do you have any ideas (aside from actual subspecies themselves) to make it cooler?

It's interesting. It's an extra perk for those who breed, and pay real money for it.

Gotcha. My understanding is now fixed. I was trying to make it make sense from a genetic position, but that is unnecessary.

Hmm, other ideas... I'm fresh out. It sounds good.

XD I can appreciate the attempt, but considering that aywas breed with magic, it seems an unnecessary step. What we aim for is to have a new feature/new linearts that don't put a lot of stress on the breeding team. The current setup ensures that won't happen.

I agree with the couple others that breedings are taking too long... maybe if there's a time when its not so backed up.

I really like this idea :D

Man, I forgot that. XD Ah well. I swear as a game designer I feel like I should have more to input, but this seems pretty squared. That and I can't say magical breeding mechanics are my forte.

The only way to reduce breeding queue time is to make breeding items more expensive, as it would make less people submit. x.x And obviously no one wants that lol

Or you can try to tempt more breeding artists with goodies xD

So two subspecies could breed no problem with an LBC? As far as breeding (not species) is concerned, subspecies are like... the hybrid equivalent for LBCs, as far as I understand...? :3 Yeah, knowing the the lines are 100% different sounds like way too much work to throw at the LBC artists outside of the 1-5% chance, that makes a lot of sense now. ^^
