Breeding Subspecies

Pets

So, Frey and I were talking and came up with an idea: what if, with a very small percentage chance, an LBC breeding could result in a baby with an alternate lineart!

So the talk of subspecies has returned, but these are breeding mutations -- or babies that result in an alternate lineart due to the small percentage being achieved. The percentage would be 1% - 5% depending on the species.

Breeding subspecies would have these rules:
- They can only breed to other pets of that same lineart style (LBC)
- Customs would currently not be currently available of the breeding linearts, but possibly in the future. They're rare breeding occurrences!
- Users have the ability to select "no breeding subspecies" while initiating a breeding if they do not want their breeding to have a chance of resulting in a subspecies

What exactly is a subspecies?
A subspecies is a type of genus, like a melo, except that it has a different pose and looks slightly different from the original pet. For example, a subspecies of melo could be a fire melo, or a melo that's flaming from the feet and ears but is in a more action pose.

A breeding subspecies would take on the colors/edits of its parents directly onto the subspecies base, like normal breeding. So, if you bred a horned black melo with a winged red devil melo, you could presumably get a flaming subspecies melo that's black and red with wings and horns :D

Do you have subspecies ideas?
You can submit them here!

So what do you think of the idea of breeding subspecies? Do you have any ideas (aside from actual subspecies themselves) to make it cooler?

Since you would be making it optional to get the subspecies, I'd say sure. I was going to say no till I read that part, cause I'd hate to get a pet that I couldn't breed with a LBC against my will.

I like the idea...

Frey already said it wouldn't cause more work :)

I'm kinda on the fence with this one. It could be a really neat idea, but sounds like more work for the artists and breedings are already backed up. I guess as long as it stays really rare then it's ok, but I think I'd need to see the subspecies before deciding. ^^;

I think if more artists are hired on, it shouldn't be too big of a problem -- plus, the chances of getting a subspecies are so incredibly low, they're not likely to get the subspecies that often. They'll already have subspecies lineart provided, so it's just like coloring any other offspring -- merely a matter of whether or not the breeding resulted in a subspecies, much like the question of whether or not the breeding pair gets one or two babies. -shrug- I don't think it's really all that much more work.

If it doesn't cause more work then, it'd be okay. But with the backed up breeding lists in all. It had me worried for them, and getting hounded with more work.

With the percentages of 1-5% of it even happening, it won't be more work. Think of it. Out of 100 babies, potentially only 1-5 would be alt. lineart. So I'm only expecting 2-3 breedings to get one out of 50-ish at a time.

i agree with Sai as well...it is a lovely idea and i would love to have the chance to get a subspecies, but at this point it would be more important for me that i wouldnt have to wait for my babies so long,so for now its probably better not to give the artists more work :) but i really love the idea!

Erm..... I honestly don't think how it would give the breeding artists more work xD they're just working on another species, not an EXTRA baby.

This is a neat idea, and it wouldn't add on to the backlog, since most breedings would result in "normal" offspring.
