An Item Update

Site Update

As you are aware, Aywas has been making some changes - some big, some small - to some of the past elements of the site. One of the most notable changes is the NPC switch.

Despite the successful rolling out of our new cast, there are a lot of things that remain from the earlier days of the site, and while some of them are quite benign and we're happy to keep them as a curiosity, some are not things we're comfortable keeping on site.

Specifically the Handguns.

These are an extremely old item that users were told to collect for a future trade-in opportunity which... well, it never came. With staff changes and idea adjustments, this has left that suggestion and promise to the wayside as the original plan for these items was never passed on.

As Aywas and its lore continues to grow we've found that both staff and users alike don't feel that there is a place for these items on site any more. They are a symbol that reminds us of the violence and tragedies that we face every day - and it's jarring for most of us to cook up such an item while the news tells us of another mass shooting, another police incident, and so on.

We are not trying to make a political statement or a stance on gun ownership - but we are paying attention to those that tell us this makes them feel uncomfortable, and as such we are choosing to take on an old adage: make love, not war.

As I post this the four handgun items are being changed into four snapdragon items. They will come into play in an upcoming event, where we will fulfil the promise of their trade-in being beneficial to the collectors of these items.

For those wondering why we are changing these items but not other gun-based items, this is because the other items are either HA items or an extremely rare find, making them less likely to be obtained, or unobtainable, from games. At this time we have no intent to adjust them or make them unavailable, but should they become an issue we are open to discussing options.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them below and we will try to have answers for you!

Reminds me of the end of "Yellow Submarine" where the weapons turn into flowers :)

What Riverotter said. It's not guns that are evil, it's not taking care of people's mental health. Besides that most of the recent large-scale incidents have not been with handguns...
Since they served no purpose, it's fine, I guess, but you're doing things for the wrong reasons.
If you are deeply bothered by an inanimate object, please seek some form of help, because it's likely your environment or past rather than the object, and you should work to understand what makes you feel the way you do.

Makes me a little sad for people who collected them, I personally liked them quite a bit. Although the snapdragons are pretty it's a bit sad not to be able to have the choice of converting the guns to them or not. Nice to know the user items and HA ones won't be affected at least, and that at least the snapdragons will be able to be turned in for something.

I appreciate this, thank you. On a day when my mom's office building had to be locked down because yesterday someone was making threats to shoot the place up, and this morning a bomb threat was called in... It's nice to see this.

I am entirely indifferent on the matter, I never really saw them or had much of an interaction with them as a collectible. But I want toknow if there is a possibility of the need to worry if all the site-produced sets made and colored by users for the monthly sets thing, aren't in danger of being changed/altered/exchanged/replaced, or if it was only those 4 items that fell under this concern.

Ah, I missed the part where this was addressed, never mind!

Well, I can't relate with the bad feeling part, but I can understand the change.
I have an awful feeling about parasite related items (due to phobia), but the poit is, they are suppose to cause the bad feeling. The guns are just pointless.

Thanks for making the game more enjoyable :3

Unhappy about the change but as usual it is one that is wished so it's done without really consulting the ENTIRE userbase, since the userbase is the reason you claim in the reason for changing. SMDH

Used to collec those, but initially I dont mind them being changed. It seems like a high number of people where bothered by them.

Only thing that worries me is: will this also have consequences on custom pets? Like, will a mafioso melo no longer be allowed to wield a tommy gun in the future?

I never even knew these items existed so I don't really care much that they were changed, but personally, I don't think they should have been changed. At least not without putting up a poll for the ENTIRE community.

I don't see how pixels on a screen, and just a drawing at that not even a picture of the real thing, can make someone feel uncomfortable. It's not real, it can't do anything. And as I saw some people say while I skimmed through a few comments, guns aren't the only thing that people have used, there's been stabbings and even uses of explosives, so guns shouldn't automatically be linked to tragedies and violence. Since the guns have been replaced, why not also replace all bladed items on the site? Since those can be linked to violence as well.

Now I'm not trying to be mean or disrespectful, I'm not even pro-gun, I think more laws should be put in place for guns so shootings can be prevented more. And I understand that some people I guess have deep issues that result in them being uncomfortable about guns no matter how they're pictured, I just wanted to voice my opinion on the matter. Again, I don't even particularly care about the guns being replaced, honestly I really like the flowers since they're really pretty, just the way this was done could have been done better in my opinion and possibly never even done at all.
